LOL sorry it was late. I have a friend up there, in Cornish.

I like the first picture of your non-silkie. She looks like she's carefully stepping over that rock. What breed is she?

I have one my daughter's freaking out about because she thinks her Cottonball possibly a rooster when she wants a girl. She says it's getting a "roo do."

Here's a picture of the culprit. I don't see it myself, just a unisex chick. Based on top knots, I have two suspected hens, one suspected cockerel and seven showing no sign of gender at all. With my luck those seven will turn out to be boys.

I don't really know what breed the chick is. She's a mutt. lol Dad is a New Hampshire Red and mom is one of our little white hens. She lays green eggs. No idea what breed she is. Someone thought white Marans mix, we have 3 of them, only one has feathered legs which is not the hen that laid the egg that this chick of mine popped out of.

So, I don't know. I'm hoping my chick will also lay green eggs, then I can call her an Easter Egger. lol

Cute little chick, btw.

Hope it turns out to be a girl!

Got my girls today!!!

OMG! What beauties! Where did you get them from? Congrats!
Not sure yet haha! Probably $1 per egg for the mixed( I have Silver Laced Polish and Splash Ameraucana roo's over a silver/blue frizzle, BCM/olive egger, and an Easter Egger; Also a White silkie roo over a Partridge sizzle and a gold laced bantam cochin.) The pure silkie eggs would start at $2 per egg and may go up depending on the quality of the chicks. These would be my White roo over a light blue hen. Here are some pictures of the silkie parents, you can PM me if you want pics of the other chickens that would be in the "mixed" flock

What do you get from a white and blue? <3 your babies!
Dang your quick to the draw at finding stuff! lol.. When I'm ready to search for something, I know who to call to find it :)
yeah ive searched craigslist in NH and VT but there are none very close. i wish i could get the roo in your link but derry is quite the drive. loudon was too, but i couldnt find any silkies closer than that. i may just go with hatchery chicks, then i can order a few extra and still pay less than if i got older birds. i raised my moms day old comets and NHRs from day old to about 2 weeks. it will give me some practice for when i start hatching my own chicks.

thanks for the help though! just wish they were closer, but ill have to keep an eye out. i think i found my last ones out of the weekly flee. the people i got them from may still have some, i think i still have their card somewhere...
What if you ask the seller if he would meet you half way. If he's desperate to find him a home where he wont become food, maybe he would do that for you.

Okay, so I got these new beautiful girls yesterday and will be adding my blue pair in with them. So I will have one roo and 5 girls. One of the girls is laying and older than the rest. I would like to let her hatch her own babies if she wants to. I have never done this before, so I need some help. Can I keep them all together with babies? I don't have the space to have multiple coops ( I already have a large fowl coop and now a silkie one). Will my roo hurt the babies? I was told she lays every day-ish and that she was bred yesterday. No eggs yet today, probably from the move, but I don't want to eat a fertilized silkie egg. I have no issue with large foel eggs, but silkie eggs are like puppies.

I just want a harmonious coop, without a lot of fuss. Lol

...........the kids...............

Booker my roo

Took some more pics of my lavender teens. I'm pretty sure one is a roo, one is a hen and I'm on the fence about the third.

This is the one I'm 95% sure is a hen:

We don't have any mutts, but we do have sex links -- black and gold stars. They're so docile and curious, not flighty or skittish like most of our regular breed purebreds. I wouldn't mind a few mutts around, but our only confirmed rooster is a cochin and I now suspect four of my silkies of possibly being roos . I'm trying to imagine what I'd get if the cochin or a silkie bred with a sex link. I wonder with three breeds combining into one bird if it would be one interesting looking chicken.

My daughter got her white pullet. I had put an ad on Craigslist looking for silkies after my first batch were eaten by raccoons (only one survived) and forgot about it after the breeder I got the first batch from had more chicks. Last week a teenager in 4H contact me because he's looking to sell off some not-quite-show-quality stock. So, after some emailing back and forth, I went and got myself a beautiful white pullet since I want at least a couple of hens.
