Silkie thread!

98% sure it is a boy, and most likely a Bantam since it's comb is so large yet it is small. Glad it looks like it was just attacked and got away rather than dumped. Silkies should have 5 toes on each foot, are you saying it has 6 on each? weird =P I have one special needs, messed up girl who has 6 on one foot. Let me post you some pics of a girl and a boy so you can compare them =)

PS: can you get another picture today? We would love to see the little guy!

Males (1st is young, 2nd is older)

Females

Honestly our little one looks nothing like either of yours! lol - I wouldn;t know what to look for.
S/he has 6 toes on each foot and no spers. Still no crowing but lots of clucking? No eggs either so I guess wait and see.

You are right when you say the comb is well developed - more than I would expect from a LF chick which would be about 10-12 weeks in comparison to the size of this one ( Bering in mind I only have Amber star and Maran chicks right now. ) If it is a fully developed Banty - I would have thought it would crow by now? - So maybe there is only one other option - OH PLEASE LAY AN EGG!!!!!

I was out with it just now and I have managed to pick S/he up for the first time and hold s/he tight to my chest. I finally had a real good look. Most of the feathers are gone from the right wing but it does not seem to be broken. Opening up ok but it is sore for her and the tail is all bit gone though s/he has a few feathers left - the top of the back is swollen from the plucking! I think it will go donw in a day or two. More worrying is that s/he has drank three and a half tubs of water since yesterday ( about a mug full per tub? - S/he must have been very dehidrated) Also there is no fat on her at all she is just bone, and is very hungry all the time. I am thinking to biuld her/him up on some scrambled eggs and yogurt! It is going to get spoiled. I love it lots already - I am such a sucker!

Oes - yes 6 toes will try to get pics asap but will have to leave her for a bit as I don't want her distressed again.

I thought I would post here to see what you all think. We found a Silkie today in the middle of nowhere walking up the grass verge soaking wet and freezing cold. We tried a small cottage that was near but no one was home and there was no sign of hens in their yard. We also tried a few more houses but they were nearly a mile further on up the lane - so chances are she got caught by a Fox and could have been brought from anywhere. She has lost a deal of feathers around the wing tips and back end, tail etc. But she looks to have gotten away without any injuries to the skin. I was looking on the net and think she looks like a Calico Silkie???? This is one off the Net I got????? This is not her she is in the pic below.

That is a cockerel. He looks relatively young, which explains him not crowing yet.

He is beautiful! Poor little guy! So glad he was found!

Just got 4 new silkies to add to my silkie flock! I have read about setting up a quarantine and would appreciate any advice on what to do and what to look out for before I integrate them. Also any tips about integrating would be much appreciated!

Well we have 9 in the brooder now. 7 of them are the silkie hens hatch from the last 2 days. There are two hatched babies, a pipped egg and two other eggs under her. I'm concerned though becuse the two little ones under her are new hatches, not getting around great yet, ant the only reason I saw the pipped egg was because I heard peeping and looked in the coop and she was up pacing frustrated and the chicks were crying and I saw the eggs laying there. She hadn't been up ong, so I put her back on the nest and put her food in front of her. Now I'm concerned that she won't let the rest of the eggs hatch. I turned my incubator on just in case, but I have never used it so I hope if I have to use it I can keep the temp and humidity right. I'm mostly concerned for the egg I saw that was pipped. We have brought most of the chicks in because 14 eggs was just too many. I was going to wait until she was done hatching and either take some of the chicks back out, or bring her in. I had planned on letting the ones that are out there stay with her, but her freaking out a little while ago has me nervous. I am going to go check on her in a minute to make sure she stayed on the nest. I'm not sure why she is suddenly doing this. Maybe stir crazy from being in there for 3 days hatching eggs. Help!

when I got a silkie to add in my flock I used the see but not touch method, and after a couple days, everybody was happy and I integrated them, but make sure to watch them all due to pecking order. Good Luck ! Hope this helps! They are very pretty/handsome!

Ideally you would quarantine for 6 weeks. Do the obvious checks for mites and lice and be on the look out for any symptoms of upper respiratory disease. Coughing, sneezing, wheezing, gunky eyes and nostrils. On the issue of introducing them to your existing flock, I usually put them inside the pen in a smaller cage for a day or so. This way they all get to have a look at each other. Then when the time is right I open the cage and let them come out at their own speed. Very nice birds btw.

Well getting four chicks who are less than a week old from a friend. There white which I didn't want white

bit it will be interesting to see what colors I'll get.

she has splash pair. With black hens and lavender splash.

just from that group the too apparently has partridge in him
she gets partridge chicks, lavender splash, splash, white, black, and blue.

need to figure out names. I just worry ill get attacked and there will be a few roosters but my rooster don't like other roosters.

unless when hey get a few months I put hem next to each other for a while so they can get use to each other. Idk lol
