Just took some new pictures of my chicks. They sure are funny looking! In a cute way

They will be 4 weeks old tomorrow. I sure see lots of boys! My favorite is the one with the bright orange head feathers coming in. He will be a keeper. See how tiny the one lavender chick is? That is the one I helped hatch because it was upside down. Frisky little thing though

Look how dark the one chick is that came from the blue/splash pen. Sure looks black! I will have to ask the breeder about that one.

Aww they are precious! Mine are about the same age now. Aren't they fun?!

Awwwwww - Just Adorable! I love this stage, what I call the "firecracker/feathers up in rollers stage"... "I don't have all my feathers in yet mommy, but you love me anyway, don't you?"

The orange headed one is cute, I think that "up tail" is cute too.

The Lavender is adorable too, and if the White follows the rules and curved beak=boy, straight beak=girl works then He is adorable too. However NONE of mine followed that rule - all my birds have straight beaks - male and female!

I believe your dark one is a Blue. None of my Blacks start out gray - they start out Black. She may turn out to be a dark Blue which are sometimes mistaken for Black, they are out there. She's got her rollers on for sure.

That is good to know about the blue one. Sure is dark! Too bad the white one has split wing

Is it possible for it to straighten out later?

It looks like I have LOTS of boys! Have you picked yours out yet

Yes, I agree with you - I see lots of boys too. CatDance babies are usually easy to sex when they are young (for me anyway). Zipper would be a cute name too, though you won't be able to see it when the adult feathers come in.

Yeah, I think 5 or 6 of the 9 are boys

What, you mean I get to choose NOW? Oh, but if I did that it would be your favorite later on - or it might "turn into" a girl.. then you would want to keep it. I like the orange head too - but I wonder if it didn't get two copies of lavender because its rather a dark orange for a bird that should be washed out by the lavender. Which one was the oddball dark one at birth? That one I would like to view their journey through the feather changes. If it turns out to be a boy, and isn't your favorite...

Tell you what, you decide when they get their adult feathers in and you can critique them properly. I will be patient

. I will happily take any boy that isn't the best boy - or the second best if you want a backup. I would even take the little Self Blue if that is what you decide... Just too cute!

I think of my four chicks here the one Black and one Blue are girls - the other Blue and the "Partridge" look to be boys. The Partridge was the one I really wanted to be a girl - drat! Did you want to trade birds once you decide? Mine are almost 10 weeks old. I am thinking of trying to sell them now before I know I have two boys (instead of guessing) but if you still want the Black or the Blue girl let me know. Or even the Blue boy. I won't claim any higher than BQ on mine (but stance looks good), but added to the genetic powerhouse behind Catdance's birds will correct all the deficiencies I see in mine.. and then some. My Black is really really black... coal black at birth and hasn't lightened up at all. Super dark skin too - I would guess she is extra melanized.

My repeat offender, the mom of that batch (Poppi), has gone broody again. I gave her 4 of Minkie's (my nice Partridge Silkie) eggs. Then Minkie decided SHE wanted to be broody so she is sitting on one of her eggs - and two from the Partridge Wyandotte Bantam cross (light Partridge with Blue instead of Black) I just threw in there. No clue who daddy will be on those - that one was in with my Lavender/Split Ameraucana roosters, one Marans Rooster, her half brother and she could get through the fence to the Isbar and SFH rooster... and is now in with one adult Partridge Silkie rooster and one growing up dark Partridge boy (Goggles). I really wasn't planning on setting any of her eggs, but one egg for a hen is pretty risky... so I let her have the three.

I would guess Splash - because they can start out white as chicks - at least the ones I have seen here on BYC do. I have never had a Splash, only Blue, Black, White, Smutty Buff and Partridge so far. The reason I guessed White is I had both a silver based White and a gold based White - and yours looked very much like my Cream... He turned into a beautiful White boy - and found a good home with two of his friends.
