I posted this earlier, but thought I'd update in case anyone was interested. I gave my hen a few more baths, and more egg gunk and shell came out. She completely lost use of her legs for a little while and couldn't hold her head still enough to drink on her own, but made a major turn around after her last bath. Within a couple of hours she was standing and drinking on her own. When I was sure she was dry, I took her back out to the coop. She immediately gobbled down some food, got a drink and hopped in the nest box. Within 5 minutes she'd laid this:My Sizzle hen hatched out some chicks last night (I'm assuming), most are Silkies and I think a few are Sizzles. They're so adorable.
On a sadder note, one of my Silkie hens isn't doing so good today. When I opened the door this morning she acted like she couldn't get down the step to the ground. So, I picked her up and sat her there. When I checked a little while later, she was still in the same spot. Then I took scraps out just a little while later and she was laying on her chest with her feet stretched out behind her, panting. She had some clear fluid leaking from her vent, so I brought her inside and let her soak in a warm bath. Some scrambled yolk and a few bits of shell came out of herIs there anything I can do? Right now shes in my laundry room wrapped in a towel getting dry. I just lost another of my hens to a hawk, and only had 5 chickens to start with since I had to downsize for our move![]()
