Silkie thread!

also bought these lil guys from tractor supply company today :) they are silkies what color would ya call the silver colored chick?

Probably a white or blue color.

My Sizzle hen hatched out some chicks last night (I'm assuming), most are Silkies and I think a few are Sizzles. They're so adorable.

On a sadder note, one of my Silkie hens isn't doing so good today. When I opened the door this morning she acted like she couldn't get down the step to the ground. So, I picked her up and sat her there. When I checked a little while later, she was still in the same spot. Then I took scraps out just a little while later and she was laying on her chest with her feet stretched out behind her, panting. She had some clear fluid leaking from her vent, so I brought her inside and let her soak in a warm bath. Some scrambled yolk and a few bits of shell came out of her

Is there anything I can do? Right now shes in my laundry room wrapped in a towel getting dry. I just lost another of my hens to a hawk, and only had 5 chickens to start with since I had to downsize for our move

I posted this earlier, but thought I'd update in case anyone was interested. I gave my hen a few more baths, and more egg gunk and shell came out. She completely lost use of her legs for a little while and couldn't hold her head still enough to drink on her own, but made a major turn around after her last bath. Within a couple of hours she was standing and drinking on her own. When I was sure she was dry, I took her back out to the coop. She immediately gobbled down some food, got a drink and hopped in the nest box. Within 5 minutes she'd laid this:

I didn't drop it, this is how it came out. I've had chickens for almost 10 years and I've never gotten an egg like this. My Silkies are fed flock raiser, they have a dish of oyster shell on the side and I feed back eggshells with my kitchen scraps. Maybe the rooster did it? Or the broody with newly hatched chicks? Anybody ever had something like this happen?

No good deed goes unpunished. I think the little indents on the egg are impressions from her vertebrae. It sounds as if this egg was pushing against her spinal column and pinching some spinal chord nerves, causing her to lose nerve control of her legs, neck, whatever. Just a guess, though. You are so good to have saved her.

They are precious! I am searching like crazy for silkie eggs and having no luck... any suggestions where to order the eggs from???

I recommend a vinegar/water flush to prevent bacterial infection, like a douche.
Use a large syringe without a needle, mixing 1 tablespoon of WHITE vinegar to 1 quart of water. Use a full syringe of the mixture and insert the syringe into her vent and gently flush. Use about 3 or 4 syringefuls, the liquid may or may not flow from her vent afterwards.
Best of luck with her.

Mine didn't need extra moisture. I kind of jepordized them when hatching standard eggs with them.
