It's more the angle of the leg that is noticeable in marecks. This thread is very informative . Salmonella poisoning can also have similar symptoms and rapid death. Check your coop for any rotten food.

I just washed it off and watched him until he stopped bleeding. One side of his wattle was pretty bad but it did eventually stop. They were all in bed when I got home tonight. If it's too late tomorrow i may just have to dig him out of the coop to check on him again. I had never thought or heard of using desitin on them.

What do you do for bloody areas?
I wash the blood off and then apply the baby desitine to the affected area!
That stuff cures everything! And no other chicken wants to mess with it either!

That stuff is magical! LOL
I taught my daughter to put a dab of it on her zits and cover with a band aide before going to bed! The next morning it was almost gone! She was like WOW Mom! She's in her 30's! Also works the same for cuts and scrapes on ourselves.

So my curiosity got the better of me years ago and I tried it on some baby chicks I got from a Hatchery. They were being pecked on and were bleeding. He gave the chicks to me and I brought them home. Put the Desitine on them and within a few days they were much better. :)

I have some Silkies from a breeder's mixed color breeding pen and wondered what color this 10-week-old is? I think its a pullet. Thanks!
Looks a lot like my first two birds are they from Florida by chance? Here's our Freedom and Liberty the fourth of July chicks! Liberty has the pony tail.

Is it just my girls, or is broodiness contagious? They have insisted on sitting all Winter long, no matter how many times I tried to break them! I finally relented, and from the three that started brooding, the new hatches now have about eight mommies telling them what to do!
Poor things are never going to get away with anything lol!

I never let my mommies raise babies around other chickens. There could be some fighting and the babies could end up getting injured or killed.

Happy babies! I always try to get mothers to share chicks. We hatch year round and the more mothers, the warmer and safer the chicks are. Occasionally one broody might pull rank and kick the other mother out, but that's few and far between. A team takes some of the stress away. I let my mothers raise babies out with my flock of 100+ chickens, and I've never had a flock member kill a baby. They may just be used to always having siblings around?? Hundreds of chicks and a few years in and they're all still kicking. Lol :)
