Silkie thread!

This little chick hatched under my bearded white silkie. It has 5 toes on each blue foot, it's bigger than its silkie sibling, it has a very adorable beard, and it shows no sign of a crest. What does it sound like it would be? I have a (what we were told) partridge silkie rooster, SS rooster, and several silver laced brahma roosters.

When my Ameraucanas are juvies they will coo when I talk to them and while I hold them in a blanket or towel - they voluntarily settle down into our arms and lap and go to sleep cooing until totally asleep.  Our Leghorns and Marans ate from our hand but barely tolerated being held - they aren't the cuddly sort.  And some breeds just seem to vocalize more than others awake or sleeping.

Today I wrapped her in a washcloth to hold her for a while. She flipped right over on her back & went to sleep. She was quiet & sleeping for quite some time. She's just the cutest thing!

What a little doll baby.

As to bathing a silkie, someone did a thread with photos(maybe video) of "Bathing & Grooming a Silkie for show." It was very thorough step by step and included how to make whites, look whiter etc.

Thats a frizzled silkie. They don't feather like that unless they carry the frizzle gene.

Thank you! The feathers were so different from the others' that I suspected as much, but I have never seen photos of frizzled silkies, just those sizzles that I think are crossed with cochins, so I wasn't sure.

Here are some photos of my silkie babies, if anyone is interested. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for at least 2 pullets. Sorry for the phone photos, maybe one day I'll actually get a real camera out.

This is Beatrix, she was given to me as a free extra, she was a few weeks older than the others she was grouped with, but she's very sweet with them. She has a crooked (but not crossed) beak and I think a single comb instead of the proper silkie one, but she's a darling.

This is Winnie almost two weeks ago, she won't hold still to be photographed anymore.

This is my Winnie (so funny one of yours has that name too, one of my best friends last name is Winnie, she's named after her- I don't know why, but this chicken reminds me of her, I think it's my friends hair

), my frizzled Silkie. She did come from my Sizzle project, but she's got all the necessary Silkie traits, so to me, she's a Silkie

Your Winnie kind of looks like it has normal, smooth feathers. Is the breeder you got them from working on Sizzles?

Compared to one of my "normal" Silkies:

It's kind of hard to see the frizzling on Silkie feathers, just sort of looks like they just rolled out of bed and need to brush their hair

I have more chicks growing out in the brooder who look a little more dramatic, but I don't know if thats because the frizzling really stands out against their chick down, or if they just have more curl than Winnie.

Your Winnie is beautiful! Thank you for this, I've been having a hard time finding information on frizzled silkies. I'd never noticed before (this is my first year with silkies) but my Winnie's wing feathers are a bit more feather-y than the other silkies. My breeder does have a sizzle that he's working on so perhaps she did get some sizzle blood after all? Interesting. Do frizzled silkies have more trouble with the cold like frizzled cochins and polish and the like do?
