I think its cute... lolHow is their temperament? I have one that is still a baby but he's built like a tank. It's funny because he doesn't have a beard or crest yet, just a couple sporadic feathers on top of his head and he looks just like an ostrich. On top of that, he has a hugely disproportionated beak. Lol He just looks terrible.

Thats all I have ever seen too, hadnt even seen pic's of the LF till I started looking them up after I seen these... lolApparently the original stock that came out of China were standard sized birds. I hear that we have standard and bantam size here in aus but I've never seen anything but bantam.
I don't get why they would want the LF sz?? I think it takes away from the cuteness factor. There are bantam and lf size in Europe, however only the bantam sized were imported into the US...
But there are many people breeding for larger sized Silkies... have seen pics of some that were close to lf size here...![]()
o yes they molt and it is bad... I feel so sorry for them cause they look terrible, worse than any other chicken.I don't mean to interrupt the thread, but can anyone tell me if silkies molt? I have one whose feathers are falling out like crazy and she hasn't laid in about a month. No one has been answering my posts. Can someone please just post a yes or no? I'd really appreciate it!
I never thought of what Silkies look like when they molt. Now, I want to see! Lol
Ok, thank you very much!
Depends on quality. Big name hatcheries sell them for $3-$5 as 2-day olds. Chicks from breeders will be more expensive but better quality. How much does a Silkie chick cost n is it worth keeping a chicks until u can sex then n then sell them
Quote: Cool! How old are the hatchlings?
