ok. NAvigating newbie here Costa Rica. never really cold sometimes rainy. always predators.
anyhow. This lumber is expensive. I am transitioning from just chickens to Silkies.
I want to build them a new coop. The Silkies I used to have prefereed to roost on my back steps.
I think they have a hard time perching on branches.
My questions are for coop design. Any problems with 1/2" wire fencing for an elevated floor and what would be the best roost?

I am no expert and my silkies are too young too roost
But i would think a 2 by 4 would be good (2 by 4...that's how you say it right?)
I have seen my regular hens go on those instead of a cylinder-type roost.

I actually prefer something round for a roost "bar". The roundness better suits the natural "curvature" of their feet rather than something flat with a "hard/sharp" angle.

So my husband cuts branches for me for ours :)

I like the 2x2s that people use for railings since they can get there feet around it a bit better for them to apart a grip on it

I used a 1x2, the reason for that is so I can hang my feeder from it... But this is just my brooder. I also hung 1x2 just like this for my coop. Just cut the corners of them.

Hello everyone... I hope it's ok that I post here. We have one Silkie Bantam. My boyfriend thinks they are adorable and had to have one. lol My question is, aren't there different breeds of Silkies? Or no? There are many different looking ones. Can I tell what she may look like when she grows up by what she looks like now?

Thank you!
