What is considered a show quality silkie

In America, a bird that conforms to the APA/ABA Standard of Perfection. The best place to start out is by reading the SOP, but that alone can be very confusing. It's very helpful to visit a poultry show (the bigger the better) and look at the birds there, determine the differences between the differently placed birds, e.g. you're looking at a bird who's Best in Breed next to one that's Reserve of Breed, or Best Variety vs. Reserve variety... try to find the differences. Also look at the really good birds, like BOB and BOV, then go look at the lowest placed birds to see the differences there as well.

Hey, I have a question. My silkies seem to be itchy. My one guy bobs his head and acts like it itches. I've checked for mites and fleas but I don't see anything. Any ideas on what can be causing his itching? Seems to be mostly on his head..

Could just be behavioral. .....my Silkies (and other chix) are alway bobbing heads, doing chicken zoomies, etc. They could be preening. ..especially if molting. If mine have an itch....I watch then use their feet to scratch or run their beaks to wipe of food. Could "possibly" be mites.....itty bitty red ones but you would see them on the body, not just the head. A few of my Silkies with fuller crests shake their heads often.....pretty sure its to see better (I started trimming crests last week).

I've checked and I don't see anything. He does have new feathers coming in and he has a decent crest for his age. Maybe that is it. Thanks. :)

Check that the nostril passages are clear if you see him scratching at his head/face. Sometimes plugged nostrils can cause a lot of shaking of the head. Just something I had problems with one of my Silkies with respiratory issues.
