Silkie thread!

Omg he or she lol was standing on his own and eating. This makes me so happy. He hasn't done that in 4 days. He's still wobbly but uses his wings to stabilize. I bought a chick electrolyte/probiotic mix for their water and he's been drinking that for 3 days now. So much stress and worry for all these little chicks

Way to go!

I noticed you have a baby ( stuffy) in with your chicks.
Should I do that?

Some folks do that if a chick has hatched before any others, and has it in a brooder..by itself. Some people will use dusters..cute idea. Once they have a buddy with them, that has hatched, they will take the stuffed animal/duster away.

I have two white silkies. They turn 1 in march though neither one has all the feather yet. Hoe much longed till they get all theor feathers on the legs and stuff right now they have very poofy heads and very soft body feather

They should already have all their feathers already. Mine are only 7 weeks old and pretty much have all their feathers. They just have to fluff up more in their crests and beards. They already have fully feathered feet.

Thanks when i get the chance i will semd a picture. They have taken to sitting in the coop and staying there( they dont like the snow)

Help...We got 2 silkie chicks and I am amazed at how tiny they are. The black one in the pic started having trouble walking so I separated them from my regular chicks cause they are about 1/3 the size but the same age. Why are they so small???

Any advice on what to do for this little guy? He's eating, drinking & pooping but what do I do for his leg?
Bantam chicks should be separated from large fowl chicks in most cases to prevent injuries and malnutrition. Is there an injury or malformation of the leg or does it seem to be lethargic?

So I have been breeding a certain line of silkies for at least four generations now and this previous generation I bred a rooster with his grandmother(first time breeding slightly related birds for the line thinking they had a big enough gene pool). I got five chicks out the first batch; one has developed a crooked beak, not cross just crooked and another one's beak is abnormally overgrown compared to the others. I have no idea if this is genetics or just coincidence. They have been raised on shavings with a broody hen in my garage so not much exposure to outside elements that may help shape their beaks better but I have never had this problem before. They were hatched mid December.
