Silkie thread!

One of my pullets was walking around the run this morning and scratching in all the corners looked like she was trying to find a place to make a nest so I blocked corners and put plastic eggs in the place I want her to lay now she is sitting on the plastic eggs. I look for eggs every day and no one has layed. Will she go broody without laying an egg and should I take the plastic eggs away?

Leave the eggs. It shows them where a good nest spot is.

Hopefully she does lay before going broody. I have had them decide that wasn't a requirement. Usually I get at least a few eggs though. Had one decide to lay four eggs and then go broody earlier this year. Mine normally go broody within a couple months if starting to lay. I may just have an extremely broody strain though.

I've got.my first Satin Silkie from my project pen. She is an F2 generation grey. Has all the attributes of a silkie with the exception of feathering. She has very soft feathers.

Hi. I have a 2 month old splash girl? That is having leg problems suddenly. I already tried vitamin b without much success after 24 hrs. It is small and gets pushed off food a bit. I have her inside now. Anything silkies are known to have problems with? I was thinking about trying E and selenium next but shes not really having neck problems.

We almost had a disaster tonight. Our young, hormonal gander decided to make a move on our little broody silkie. Thankful, I was out there to take her but the baby took off and was nowhere to be found. Mama had no clue where she'd gone and neither did I. It took at least a half hour but we eventually found her, hidden Bertram a log and a wall, perfectly hidden. I didn't even see her when I first moved the log! She and her mama are happily back together and fine. Gander got himself thrown in jail for the rest of the night and threatened to become a Christmas goose.
