One of my pullets was walking around the run this morning and scratching in all the corners looked like she was trying to find a place to make a nest so I blocked corners and put plastic eggs in the place I want her to lay now she is sitting on the plastic eggs. I look for eggs every day and no one has layed. Will she go broody without laying an egg and should I take the plastic eggs away?
Leave the eggs. It shows them where a good nest spot is.
Hopefully she does lay before going broody. I have had them decide that wasn't a requirement. Usually I get at least a few eggs though. Had one decide to lay four eggs and then go broody earlier this year. Mine normally go broody within a couple months if starting to lay. I may just have an extremely broody strain though.
