Silkies are no more seasonal layers than most breeds: In northern parts of the country that have significantly fewer hours of light in winter will cause most breeds to go on sabbatical. Where I am, the extreme summer heat is far more likley to cuase stress and for them to stop laying than winter lighting. Silkies lay just as frequently as any breed, except that they go broody often, during which time they do not lay. They will start again about 4-6 weeks after the chicks hatch. Mine usually do not lay until 9-13 months old.
hi guys,
so i wanted to bounce in here to ask a question
around what age do the streamers become obvious?
i have four showgirl chicks (about 2 months old) and it seems they all have streamers EXCEPT the one who is very obviously a roo (beat red comb, red neck, aggressive). I am HOPING that its just their crest feathers coming in funky...
Could somebody tell me what color he is? You cna't see it in the pic but he has some gold leackage on his head and neck. It's not noticable until you have hi in your arms cuddling. He's a cuddler.
Would he be showable? He has one foot that the 4th and 5th toes aren't right. I would think it would be a waste of time just for that reason then there is the leackage. When he was younger there was no leackage. It's just showing up. He's almost a year old.
