Silkie thread!

White should be bread with white. Some keep black and splash together. Is that what you are asking??

Thanks sooo much for the feedback....could you get blues from breeding splash to black? Also, why should you not breed the white to the other colors? sorry, newbie to silkies

yes you will get blues. white birds can be masking other colors. most people when they buy birds or eggs want pure colors. adding white to a colored pen makes it a bit of a crap shoot.

Thanks! All clear now...

So my broody hatched 5 chicks all 5 chicks are different colored...LOL Roo is Blk/Lav split and mom is a dark blue. I will post pics soon...

One chick is a light blue one is a dark blue and one is marked like a partridge and one is black and one is white with black markings. So weird!

ETA: Here they are.

Sad day here.

My very first Silkie hadn't been doing so hot over the last few weeks. Today she reached her breaking point, I imagine, because of the almost 100 degree weather. She was the first one I ever had and I can still remember the first time I laid eyes on her when we brought her home as a chick. She was so sweet and one of my early favorites and for the 4 years she lived, thrived among my layers. She was still warm when I found her but rigor was setting in...It's so sad. She was only a hatchery bird but meant so much more to me. Beauty is truly skin deep. I valued her the same amount as all of my 'quality' stock put together.

People, please always remember to keep extra caution during this season. This sort of weather is causing stress to even my toughest birds who brave winter like it's no big deal, and we're all the way up in NY.

I'll miss you Picasso.

Hi! I'm back for a bit with a question in two parts. I have a partridge cockerel and a white pulley, what color would any offspring be and would they be showable?
