Silkie thread!

juliaaa, if these are in fact silkie cochin crosses they will make fantastic broodies. I'm thinking of purposely crossing mine just for this reason, just to have a few dedicated broody hens.

What part of the country are you in? If you are near me I have a few surplus silkie chicks.

Other breeds have the green sheen too. My Ameraucana hens and Cochin hens have it as well.

Agree...in your pic...The one hiding in back is Silkie,
The one in front is a mix breed

Anyone know what you would call this color of silkie? The chick is blue and buff mixed has blue leg feathering a blue tail with some buff on the wings and back.

Just got 5 red silkies which are a couple of weeks old. I read how friendly they are but my chicks cower in a corner when you go to hold them. What is the best way to 'tame' them? Is it just lots and lots of holding or are there some tricks to it?

I think we have to remember that they are not dogs and just accept the attention they give us as the chickens they are!
