Silkie thread!

Hey, wait! Where in Louisiana are you? I wish I'd have known someone on here was in Louisiana that had silkies, lol! Shoot.

St. James Parish. I havent found any good silkie breeders in Louisiana so I had them shipped from various states. No one around here wants silkies and I really need to get rid of these to make room for more!

Oh man, we picked up two from someone here in Lafayette but one of them has come down with what we think is fowl pox. He's got no upper respiratory issues, just some weird sores on his feet and presumably his eye- it's hard to tell because his lid is swollen right now, and he's too feathered for me to see his comb!

I have the vaccine coming on Monday. I wanted SQ too but I got two pet quality ones, had the same problem you did.

I was warned I might have to vaccinate against fowl pox here anyway, so we're vaccinating the buff that came with him. The roo that fathered our splash is actually quite a handsome fellow but his offspring's got crooked toes.

Where did you end up ordering from? We figured we'd keep the two we had for pets, but I was really hoping to find SOMEWHERE to get SQ stock from. I'm surprised no one wants your silkies, but then again the lady I got our two from was having the same problem, she's got about 10-15 black/blue month olds left and then ~8 2 month old blues that she hasn't been able to get rid of, plus there's a guy in Gonzales with the same issue with non-bearded.

Yours are very gorgeous even if they have faults though.

I just wish the little splash we got didn't have to break out in pox, or I'd be happy to get more.

Hoping to get him cleaned up and feeling better, he's my favorite of the two we have. He actually likes to have me hold him and sit with me, the buff is a bit of a frady-cat.

I have some good quality silkies too. I love em! I got some from Bobbi Porto(Florida), Amy Piehl(Minnesota), and Northwood silkies(Michigan.) Here are some pictures. I should have some SQ ones for sale soon if you would be interested. The chicks that are free have faults that are most likely from incubation or injury. One has a slightly curved beak and another has a crooked toe and then another has 6 toes. Other than that, they are fine and healthy.

It seems like I may have. Whatever it is, it sure is cute! I have had a partridge chick from a hatchery before and it was alot darker in color. Will this one be a lighter part. or a blue part.?

It is a blue partridge.

Any idea what the percentage of colors I will get if bred to a blue or black roo?

I would def. be interested in SQ! We ended up getting the 'pet' ones because we had a rather poor experience with our first time incubating and hoped to luck out and get a hen that might go broody, but at the very least use them as guinea pigs as we build our first coop!

I don't know anyone that has kept these "pop up" partridges, so I'm not sure if the outcome is the same as if the bird was a regular blue. I don't plan to breed from mine.
