It depends on the entire geneset. Some varieties display with one copy; others require two. Some display differently with one than with two.
Many (most) silkies are e^b based. e^b is the base for the partridge variety, so, while it is a recessive gene, in silkies (as well as several other breeds) it is fairly easy for two copies to pair up, even though neither parent really displays it.
Okay-- it's DONE!!! I bathed him and washed out his poopy rear. And let me say-- it was a LOT worse than I thought it was! It had really balled up in there and I tried to take the scissors to it, because after really trying to be gentle and wash it out, it wouldn't come out! So I snipped a bit and in the end, I was afraid I'd snip into his skin... so I did the unthinkable and just yanked it out. He's fine! No blood, but it was right around his vent, so now I don't have to trim it! LOL I blow dried him and took some pictures. I took a pic of his rear after it was washed and partly blown out. I hope it doesn't look like I did something to him. I would be posting those pics right now, but the camera died and must re-charge. I do want to post a picture of him in the sink-- HILARIOUS! Poor thing, he was sooooo teeny tiny!! His fluff is really deceptive. I'll be back when the camera is charged. Just hoping this does the job and that he will now be able to fertilize those eggs!!![]()

My first time hatching eggs...such a great experience!
My baby silkies...three to the left are a week old and four to the right are just a few days old. My last hatched started yesterday with 4 down and 7 to go. Have three great mommas taking care of the babies...so happy and so proud of my girls.
