Silkie thread!

Here is my white-with-spots baby, 9 weeks old. I was thinking she is a splash...is this splash or paint??
LOL my Blue Andalusian Dora photo bombs a lot of my chicken pics...she wanted to be in that second one :D

Pretty sure your baby is a splash :) paint is typically black spots but not always, and the way a breeder explained it to me is look at the feathers that are showing the color, paint each of the entire feather is colored, tip to tip. Splash the feathers can be solid or most often only parts of the feather colored. Also paints are BOLD very decisive solid coloring on top of crisp white or off colored champagne white (dingy white) the pale splash birds typically are on a pale blue or bluish white undercolor/base with lighter muted splashings/spots of color mixed with some bolder darker splashings.

That was what I thought...Thanks for the clarification. ^..^ This little girl is a pretty thing, and I love her no matter what color she is. :D I have a lovely blue which I am 99% sure is a cockerel, so she'll have a handsome boyfriend down the line

Thank you so much. I don't know if they have ALWAYS been together. I just got them both last weekend and so far they are buddies. Now, I know that may all change once they get interested in the girlies. I love them both so I want to be able to keep them. One is the paint I posted and the other is a black.
You're welcome.

Good luck with the boys!

Right. Ok, that's what I was wondering. Horses I know.Chickens....not so much. BTW love your tobiano on your avatar

Thank you! He's one of mine! He is out of one of my mares (who is a paint)--still have her. His daddy showed NO paint spots what so ever, and I still wound up with Paint. :) (his daddy was proven to throw Paint, though--not my stud) Genetics are complicated! LOL Yeah, this whole chicken thing is much more complicated, I'll agree with you there!

Performed my first chicken bath today, of course, with Elliot, my Silkie avatar - and just a mini-bath, primarily to clean his HEAVILY feathered feet. Turns out, everything I've read about bathing Silkies is true! It was all I could do to prevent him from laying in the warm water. He seemed quite taken with the lavender scented baby shampoo I was using in the bath - intended to relax us both. But the funniest part was with the blow dryer. He opened his wings for full coverage even though only his legs and the tips of his wings got wet. Also, he insisted on the full facial blow. He snuggled into his towel and preened as we worked. They really ARE quite silly birds. He's been running around the house singing ever since!!

I bought some silkie pullets yesterday thinking they were black. Well when I let them out this morning it looks like one of them is blue in the sunlight

and I do not need blues at all, just blacks. I have a hard time telling dark blue and black silkies a part. Are they black or blue? One is lighter than the other and I'm pretty sure the darker one is black.

Darker one on the left. Lighter one on the right.

for blacks. I've had a hard time trying to find blacks and barely hatch out any.

That's so funny! When I last gave my birds a bath they weren't that happy. Some did float around in the sink but none of them really were too thrilled about the hair dryer. lol
Silkies were my first chickens ever. Now after I have been around some of these other chickens at the farm where I live (Ameraucanas, Polish etc), I love my silkies even more! They're so awesome! lol
