Silkie thread!

I have some silkies one white and one paint I plan on showing come Jan. Currently both are outside w/ their buddies during the day. I have reason to believe the sun is bleaching them out as they have a bit of yellowing in their feathers. I am wondering if I remove them from being out in the sun all day long if that will help w/ the sun bleached coats or am I pretty much SOL. I was planning on moving them to an indoor (out of the sun coop) on Oct 1 and they wouldn't return to the outdoors until my Jan shows are over. Can someone please give me your thoughts on this.

I had this happen about a year ago to one of my Lavender Ameraucana roos where he was bleached out from the sun. I removed him from the sun for 2-3 months and the yellowing fixed itself. I am wondering if it will do that w/ these 2 birds or at least help. I know there are blueing shampoo's out there to and might have to use that come showtime.

Thanks
Moving won't help until they molt. Bluing shampoo should help though. :)

Does anyone feed their Silkies fermented feed? If so did you have good or bad results. I have a hen I just got that gets a messy gross poopy butt, trying to come up with something to help and I have been reading the FF thread and it sounds like it would be good to try. I'm also going to set up a second water with ACV in it. I already bought the expensive galvanized waterer. I always fought the plastic one from keeping the water from all leaking out, so I gave it away. :(

They are dirty guessing cause they been outside before I got them

Pics are kind of blurry but oh well XD They look like they're balding hope its normal one chicks bum is completely bald, the other ones is still fuzzy

I just found this thread because I just recieved my first silkies this summer and have been out enjoying them insted of on here asking the questions that I have. So, Here they are.

#1. I have 2 White hens, 1 black/blue

hen, and 1 white rooster. What are the color combos I will get if I don't seperate my black/blue and get her her own black roo?

#2. What color is my (black/blue) hen?

#. How do I clean the puff on the top of their head? The white hen I have has been pooped on and I don't want to drowned her if I wash her head.

Thank you and sorry if these have been repeat questions.

Babies get poo on their butt fluff. The previous owner my have pulled it off feathers and all. It will very likely grow back. :) Your chicks look about 3-4 wks. old.

1.White is a very unreliable gene to work with. You could really get any color out of those two if you breed them.
2. She looks Blue to me, you can tell by looking at the undercoat. If the feathers underneath the surface are black, she is black. If they are gray or a light color, she is blue.
3. I would put her in a sink or tub with very warm water and gently cup some water onto her crest until it is wet, then you can use mild soap like Dawn, Johnson baby shampoo, or a pet shampoo to work into the crest until it is clean, then run fresh water into the tub/sink and work all that soap out a little at a time so not a lot of water gets in her face. I have washed all my birds this way and they do alright, even when a little water gets on their face.
