I GOT MY FIRST PAINT CHICK!
![]()
Sorry, I was excited. This is my third time to incubate paint eggs, in the past I've gotten whites, silver partridge and a couple of "off" colors. I locked down 24 silkie eggs and two of my own lakenvelder eggs. Last night when I when to bed, I had a Lak and a blue silkie (BBS eggs), with eight more pips.
This morning I woke up to the Lak and 7 silkie chicks, two of which are paints!!! There are still six more pips this morning (eggs were due today).
Pictures after the hatch is over and everyone has fluffed up.

How exciting!I got a silver partridge looking chick out of my Paint egg, the second one was not fertile. Those were the only 2 Paint eggs I had so chances of having a Paint were pretty slim. lol![]()
Can't wait to see pictures!
Sorry to be a pain in the *** everyone, but can anyone answer this question? So, I almost forgot! I don't know how I could have forgotten to tell everyone the good news! lol
I picked up my two birds from the fair today and they both got a blue ribbon and $10.00 each.![]()
I just don't know how it was possible that they both got first place. There were much nicer birds out at the fair. How do these birds get judged anyway?? There were so many silkies that got first place. Does it go by color and gender? That's the only reason I can think of that would make sense they ended up with blue ribbons.![]()
some fair give blue ribbins to all birds like A ribbinSorry to be a pain in the *** everyone, but can anyone answer this question?![]()
our fair dose A B C Ribbin even thow ribbins say 1st 2nd 3rdsome fair give blue ribbins to all birds like A ribbin
Quote: As an example, say you start with a blue pullet.
She can get first place in her class (blue ribbon). Then they judge the blue cocks, hens & cockerels, they could each get first place in their classes. They then judge those four first place birds against each other for Best of Variety (BV). They then pick Reserve of Variety (RV).
That procedure is repeated for each color (variety) of silkie entered in the show.
Then they take all the BV's and they compete for the best silkie (Best of Breed or BB) and Reserve of Breed or Best Opposite Sex of Breed (some shows do one or the other).
Then the BB silkie would compete against all the other feather legged bantams (cochin, brahma, etc) for Best Feather Legged Bantam. That bird would compete again all the other best category bantams (SCCL, RCCL, Game, etc) for Best Small Fowl.
A similar thing would happen in Large Fowl (American, Continental, etc). Those two birds would compete against the Best Turkey and Waterfowl (goose, duck) for Best in Show.
It all works similar to a dog show if you are familiar with them.
See, lots of blue ribbons available!
And this doesn't even count youth shows which may judge Danish system.
