Silkie thread!

Quote: Sounds like teenage hormones. Best bet is to have a fully adult rooster beat the tar out of him to teach him manners

But next to that, separate him from the girls for awhile until his hormones are more evened out, and handle him with firm, but kind care. Booting him across the yard will just teach him that you want to spar. Instead, he needs to see you an an infallible force of nature--no more worth fighting than a large tree or a thunderstorm. He needs to not consider you as competition for the girls or as a threat to the flock. browneggblueegg.com has an article on aggressive roosters that can work wonders.

Quote: All the eggs hatched at the same time? I don't think it was because they were not silkie chicks, but maybe something else, and it could have been about fighting over the chicks, or if one is still broody, that one might not take to the chicks, and that particular chick simply happened into her beak range.

I have seen birds that have never been around other varieties get upset and predjudicial towards a bird that looks different, but only when they have never been around other varieties, and then it is not usually adult vs chick.

There is recessive white and dominant white. Dominance is ONLY in relationship with other alleles of the same gene. NOT in relationship to DIFFERENT genes. Having a recessive gene that is homozygous does not prevent other genes from showing, be they dominant or recessive.

Relatively speaking, chickens are genetically complex compared to many other animals.
You must get so tired of explaining the white gene so often

. You're very helpful!
Thanks for the explaination. Genetics is complicated enough without adding Chicken genetics. LOL

I posted this earlier and was told it was probably a girl. Today I noticed the comb when it got it's crest wet and it seems big to me. Do you still think this is a girl? 14 weeks old.

Funny post !!!

Lurkel The shape of your bird looks female. Do you see any sign of pointed hackels ? I think some females do have questionalbly large combs. ie combs that confuse when trying to determine gender.

I agree, it looks like a girl body wise but that is a large comb for 14 weeks. Hope you get what you want!
