Silkie, what breed? What sex? Is he/she really 6weeks old?

Ok.. a combo of the nice poofy crest, no streamers, small comb, and girl stance... im pretty confidently guessing girl! It isn't just the streamers on its head, but males get long, like really long, feathers on their shoulders/saddle area, and im not seeing that. Did they tell you how old it is?

Yea at first i was a little disappointed that hatchery chicks are usually beardless... but their skin actually looks cool.. you can see Nala's face almost has a blue sheen to it. I still like the full feather beard tho.

So nest #2 attempt was a fail.. they knocked it over. I might have to use the jig saw and cut out a spot for a proper nest box... *sigh* but i have so much to do.

Will the little ones be in the same coop eventually? I got some really big planters for the run nests, I don’t know whether my big girls will take to them. A bit too early now anyway, maaaaaaybe General BSL will start to lay in the next few weeks, but I’m not going to be too hopeful, lol.

Eventually ill get a bigger coop, one that is taller too, cuz my D'Uccles need to have a swing!! Ill introduce them side by side before they all go in together though.

I noticed that having red on the wings is often used to identify roos, does that apply here?

No, i wouldn't call that red.. maybe mauve or chocolate.. cuckoo is a pattern to the feathers.. looks like yours has that.

I've heard that about the red on the wings pointing to cockerel as well but don't have much experience with it.

The rest is definitely looking pullet like so far. If this chick is also only around 6-7 weeks that is a bit early for seeing streamers though. Hopefully in another 6 weeks or so you'll know for sure. With that red/brown coming through on the wings and the other leakage looking more silver I'm hesitant to guess at gender despite the otherwise pullet like features.

Not sure about the color, looks mixed with maybe some sort of partridge influence (looks silver based with maybe some autosomal red coming through on the wings)? I'm not seeing barring though. I've got a black from paint with lots of silver leakage that has the silver coming through in kind of a similar manner in some places. I'd have to take another closer look at him to be sure but I remember seeing it and thinking it was funny how it came in like that.

I could definitely be wrong about color, I'm still learning and when it comes to colors other than paint I have little experience.

If it helps, his broodmates were quite colorful. I didn’t ask about the lineage, so I’m not sure whether they came from the same parents. There was one particularly memorable one was calico (?)(sorry, I only know cat terms ).

In the last pic, the one on the food container is partridge. The one to the lower left of the same container, that is cuckoo.. yours looks like a darker version of that.
