Silkied Ameraucana Project

Very cute, I want more eggs

Her chicks were from a test hatch on the young boys and girls doing their jobs or not. Didn't get all fertile eggs... Some had just started to lay and the boys had just started getting the idea... Alot of the time seems to be spent with the main cockerel running off the black one but he has contributed... Sent her home with a set of eggs to see if what they did. So was holding off sending any out until I was getting all fertile eggs here... You might want eggs from the black coop later?

Might have a couple of silkied blue girls in there too...

Yes I definitely would rather have out of the black group. I can wait for that. I might just leave her in there just to see what happens and so the other two don' t get over mated.
If yinepu is feeding FF, it is great you use less feed, they waste less. I go through a 2 five gallon buckets a week, between chick feed and adult feed. There poo is solid for the most part and it is good for them. I give both probiotics and ACV unfiltered.

I experimented with FF and really liked it overall; I've switched back to regular only out of lack of time - my dishes I served it in kept getting tipped and making a mess. Need some better way to serve it. I really liked FF in the dry-off incubator instead of food + water -- if you made it firm enough it was less mess, then they were ready to transition to the brooder box with FF, dry food, and water. They still get some FF every week with some kitchen scraps mixed in -- they go nuts for pumpkin guts and baked pumpkin skins. I'll be interested to know how well it works for the rest of you :)

Picking up the red-split eggs this morning before I head into work - already bribing my office mates with the promise of some fresh pumpkin pie as my fine for being late. The things we do for chickens :)

I also thought it was time consuming, but once I got it together and figured it out it was easy. I do one 5 gallon bucket for chicks and 1 for adults, I make it in the evening on my day off. Instead of draining off the water every morning I add crumbles or fillers such as BOSS and scratch. I will be adding pumpkin seeds for worm prevention. It takes about 30 min. in the morning to feed 7 coops and a grow out pen. I would take an hour if it meant me saving money which doing this does. I use black rubber bowls of various sizes. Congrats on your eggs

Let me know how they take to the new food. I still need to figure that out and give it a try...

My older birds already get the fermented... these guys will get their first taste of it tomorrow.. figured I would give them a few days on dry to get settled into their new home.. lol
