I have had several hatches so far this year and no silkied chicks at all yet. Will check a few more hatches before I give up and stop setting the eggs.

Are you NPIP by chance? I'd be happy to hatch some in the future out of the pen that you know has a split cock bird.

I am not NPIP. The state of PA wants to protect its commercial hatcheries from competitors like me, so they make it quite onerous to maintain certification if you are not a very, very, small producer.
But the chances of you hatching even a single silkied chick is just vanishingly small. I had hoped some of the people I sent these to in past years would have kept them going. They may have and just not be visible to any of us. There is no good way to find who has what in the poultry world.

It is gone from my line and I have sold off most of my breeders. Unless someone else has kept them going, they are lost.

That's so sad to hear Is it the same gene as are found in other breeds that can have silkie feathering? Does a SiAm outcrossed to a silkie have silkie offspring? I always wanted some SiAms after I graduated and now it looks like I may never get the chance.

I don't know if anyone ever checked that for sure. I do know that they weren't very hardy and would often just up and die. I think if someone really wanted to they could recreate them by crossing to a silkie feathered breed and then carefully selecting offspring with the best Ameraucana traits.

I wouldn't use Silkies as there are too many off standard traits to try and breed out...

These are the exact chickens I have been looking for! I saw one nursery has silked white Americaunas, don't know if they breed true or not. Is that the only place I can find eggs?

I have the Silked EEs. I’ve been breeding them for a little while. They look very Ameraucana-like, but still have the feathered shanks and walnut combs. They do produce silked offspring when crossing and backcrossing. My goal is to get Lavender though!

That’s awesome! Are there any pictures? Are they hardy?
