Silkies as housepets.

Some chickens are just more docile than others I guess.

It is just a way they are bred. We have bred dogs to have certain personality traits. Border Collies are active and chase, St. Bernards are stoic and gentle. Does it surprise anyone that chickens have been bred the same way? The Chinese bred them for medicinal qualities. I would be interested into finding out what curative properties they assigned to them. If they thought they could cure nervous conditions, or social issues it would make sense that they bred them to have extra doses of those qualities. That is just a hypothesis though:rolleyes:. I also don't think we are the first people in 2000 yrs to want cute little fluff balls as pets. Just a thought..

:lol:does anyone know that if it is true that the heat and cold of outside could kill a silkie if they lived outside???

Mine do Fine , I hang 1 heat lamp over their water when it gets really cold. I do leave it off to the side so they can get under it if they want to.

The heat of summer doesn't bother them anymore then my other breeds

Yeah I keep the coop heated so they just run inside when its cold. They've never had an issue. They CAN overheat easily tho because of all their feathers. When it gets hot out make sure that they have plenty of water. I often dip their feet in cold water if its super hot out.

ok this is off topic but does anyone know how long it takes for a chick to start peeping before it hatches????????

Where do you find patterns for silkie diapers, etc? Does anyone have a flight suit for their silkie? How many diapers flight suits should a person have for a silkie and how old are they when they start to wear one?

Im not sure what you mean by a flight suit. But I have seen youtube videos about making chicken diapers. My silkie was about 4-5 months old before he was big enough to wear a diaper.
