My no predator losses on silkies was cut short....

Some something killed my Silver Partridge Satin silkie today. :hit

I can provide pictures of the scene if wanted/needed because I have no idea what killed her. :(

I'm so sorry for your loss, HuffleClaw, and I'd like to say I partly feel your pain. I'm not sure if this will help, but several of my hens have recently died to what we thought was just eggbinding. Finally, my RIR, Penny, got her egg out. I posted a pic of it on BYC and thanks to Wyorp Rock, we identified it as lash egg. (Thank you so much, Wyorp Rock! Sorry I didn't reply, I am sort of lazy about that.) We still don't know why all our hens got lash egg, and I will probably post a thread about it soon. If I could, I would happily share your pain:hugs

Sorry to hear of your loss Kayla, :hugs
Back in the 'dark ages' I had silkies for brooding my pheasant eggs. Buff silkies, mostly mutts but they were excellent for hatching eggs.
Then I learned that chickens and pheasants don't mix...the hard way! :old
It doesn't matter what other peeps think of your silkies, Kayla, as long as you like'em, raise'em. BTW, everyone has some nice birds! :thumbsup

Any silkie thread drags me in...so here's some of my breeding/showing flock of Silkies and some of their chicks.

When it comes to Silkies, even though I absolutely adore them (hence why I keep and breed them) there is still little things about them that can grind my gears :barnie

I'm not getting further into it but I always go with the saying that parents used to say..."Dont say you don't like something if you've never tried it".

Some breeds work for different people and their circumstances and I fully respect that. Personally, I think any chicken that's a healthy and happy one is a good one no matter what it looks like.

Regardless of what anyone thinks of my fluffy chickens, they're still perfect to me and I'd never change them for anything else!

(Except a chicken nugget...:drool)

Absolutely gorgeous pictures. . as always, whether you like silkies or not those birds are stunning. :love

So. Not. Funny.
:idunno
I thought it was funny.
I don't even have chickens so I don't have a dog in this race. :gig
But I do have call ducks and they are scorned for some of the same reasons as your silkie breed.
We all like what we like. . and dislike what we dislike. And that's ok.
I live by the policy that anything worthy of taking seriously is also worthy of joking about.:)
For me that would be a positive for silkie ownership.. A conversation piece in your yard that also makes you breakfast. Win win. :lau

Btw. . sorry for your loss. :hugs

Shhhh... it was slightly funny. But the overprotective (of silkies) bear inside of me decided to reply to that. :gig :lau

Hey everyone, I just want to let you all know that this has been the funnest thread I have ever been on. Until today I have felt sort of like an outsider, despite the fact that I was a member. This post has really pulled me into this great chicken community, and I believe you will be hearing from me more now.
Thank you HuffleClaw for making this amazing thread and bringing everybody together. And I'm thanking everybody who posted pictures of their silkies or just said their mind. This has made my day and probably my week (unless something really cool happens tomorrow).
Thanks everyone.
