Zelda layed her first egg today! 23 weeks old yesterday! I posted under “my first egg”.
Anyway, did not expect a silkie to be the first!🥰
Looks just like the egg she hatched from!
That's so funny, my silkie was the first too!! And I said the same thing! 😂 Got another 2 daily eggs from the 2 silkies.. they are turning out to be little egg machines!

Do any of you have D'Uccles? My Minnie has feathers missing from her cheek poofs and under her chin... i wasn't sure if that's a common molting area, or if maybe she is getting picked on 😟 no one seems to be mean to one another, but I'm not positive.

The swheat scoop isn't working. It actually smells great (no odor) and is ACTUALLY dust free..unlike all the other products claims. but the chickens won't stop eating it. It won't hurt them, but it isn't nutritious. I'll wash some sand tomorrow really good and let it dry out then put it in their run. I need to get the chicks integrated too.. so sand will be safer for the smaller ones.

So, turns out I was wrong and it was Frankie my F2 red sexlink that laid the egg! I was expecting a much darker color from her so I just assumed it was Zelda as she had been checking out the nest boxes. In addition to this my Splash ameraucana laid her first egg yesterday and my olive Egger Raven, the one that was broody, started laying again today after a three week break, so I went from no chickens laying to three laying so that’s pretty exciting!
So none of these eggs came from Silkies but I wanted to share anyway!🥰

Your eggs are beautiful! :love

When would you guys suggest starting eggs in the incubator? Silkies are so fragile that I'm afraid of hatching them out in the winter.
My silkies are pretty tough :idunno

Spring is the best time to hatch any chicks. The earliest I would set is February, maybe late January. I think it is harder to wean chicks of the heat lamp in winter. But really it's up to you.

Thank you! I'm a bit weary after we had a workman in our house and he accidentally unplugged my heater and they all died very soon after.
