Is there something wrong with eating them?
I'm really interested in eating them since I read about the health benefits of black meat and how its really popular in Asian cuisine 😋

That being said, I don't think I would eat the hens, just the roosters.
Nothing wrong with eating them. Just thought it was funny, as it is likely a lot of work to process for very little meat. Silkie meat is known for healing properties, but I do not know if there is any truth to it. Maybe a different distribution of nutrients then regular chicken.
I personally would never eat mine as they are all pets and I am a vegetarian, but no judgement on anyone else who wants to eat silkies! 😊

No nothing wrong with that! In fact I think there are even some silkies that are specifically bred for meat that are bigger. I'd think these are the ones that typically are sold when you buy a silkie for meat/eating. :)

My little guys wouldn't be much of a meal but I'm probably going to have to learn to process as I can't always find my extra boys homes and I can only keep so many. 😢

I often can find people who will take them for meat themselves, but I want to learn to do it myself.

I can definitely respect that! I want to learn as well.

So far I've only found pet or breeder homes for my boys but they are few and far between. At least if I do it myself I know I tried my best to stress them out as little as possible and make it as quick as I can.

My Silkies are just shy of 4 weeks old already! My.... How time flies!

Anyway, I'm about 75% certain this fluffy little Splash fella is a rooster.

Eta - you can't really tell from this picture but he has a lot of grey streaks in his feathers.

There's another which appears to be a True Blue whom I also think is a rooster.

The two of them square up to each other often. They both also seem to stand more upright than the others... If they are both roosters, or if any others turn out to be roosters, I'm going to have an incredibly hard decision choosing which one to keep! 😔

Aww well he is a cutie! 🥰

Could still be a girl despite the squaring off but it does point more towards boy (I have had some girls who acted just like the most dominant of the boys). Still too young to have any really reliable signs but his facial features/expression are giving more of a boy vibe to me too.

I hope you don't have too many boys you'll have to choose from! :fl
