Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Trying to get a head-count on silkie lovers...

Anyone else here had issues with chicks heads getting crushed by older ones?

So I've always had mixed ages in my brooder with absolutely no issues but now I've had three of my youngest chicks die because their heads were crushed by the others :confused:

Now I've lost two lovely whites and one partridge :he
It's a silkie thing. Their brains are unprotected due to a genetic defect responsible for their appearance.

As already stated, mine don't have vaulted skulls, they are like any other chicks.

Not all silkies have vaulted skulls.

Mine have a fully protected brain. British bloodlines don't tend to have that trait.

As you can see, no vaulted skull in sight so mine do not possess the common defect.

Personally, it's not something I'd breed in either.
