I'm thinking Easter (nearly 5weeks old) is looking like a possible boy.. I know it's too early but I definitely cannot have another rooster since I have 3 already, one in a seperate coop due to fighting.
Here's some pics, hard to get good ones without mother hen! .. looks like the upside down 'U' comb, so boy?.. I might have to cull him but if any doubt I'll have to wait a few more weeks..

🥰 Sweet little Easter ❤️
Her/his coloring reminds me of my Teddy - they are about the same age (Teddy hatched on the Saturday before Easter Sunday).
...Well you know I'm not experienced...
From my 12 chicks I'm sure 6 are pullets (Herzchen, Mirabelle, Brioche, Violetta, Schorschette and Roberta), I know Sindbad is a cockerell and I'm pretty sure Schneeglöckchen is a cockerell, too. The other 4 I'm not sure - I have no clue about Maku and Poupette, Babette I think is a pullet but am not as sure as with the six I'm sure, Teddy I thought cockerell from the start but since some time I'm not sure anymore and have no clue at the moment.
Just from the pictures I really have no clue about your little Easter but I see nothing which would make me think cockerell would be more possible at the moment.
Hopefully Easter is a little girl and you can keep her :hugs

Pippin's egg arrived! And came with a "spare". The eggs we got aren't full silkie. One is dark and the other is light. She is sitting on them now but we let her keep her supermarket egg. They should be expected on the 26th
The eBay seller said it was a silkie hybrid with either RIR, cream leg, copper maran or light sussex
Awesome, now sweet Pippin can live and enjoy the life of a broody to the full
❤️😊
Fingers crossed everything goes well!

Too early to tell and you can not really go by comb this young. My Akira had a HUGE and WIDE comb at this age, but is still a pullet. Easter looks partridge in coloring, so if s(he) starts to develop red over the wings and black on the breast then you will know. Beautiful chick🥰

Thanks! I just got the eggs because I saw how many times she had gone broody and realised how much she wanted to be a mamma hen. I hope she stays on the nest and gets some beautiful babies. She is the flock leader so she will be able to raise them very well. she would make a great mom!!!!

Broody question:
when Pippin was brooding on a shop egg (around 9 weeks ago), she had food\water bowls in the coop, I still took her outside twice a day to make sure she ate. But it was a shop egg, I knew it wouldn't hatch.
Now, Pippin has her food\water bowls, should I still take her out? I am worried if I do, it breaks her broodiness, I don't want her to give up on her fertile ones! I wasn't so worried about it last time (because it wouldn't hatch anyway). What do you guys think? Any other broody tips?
