Oh ok then strange she abandoned the eggs  was she broody very long before you gave her eggs?
Some don't like to be moved from their nest they started going broody on, homed into that location. Some don't care where you put them or move them or disturb them as long as there's a nest of eggs to sit on! 😂
Smokey is a good broody but has to be seperated, she isn't very protective like some of my others and did kick out some eggs and left them cold. Puff and Chickaletta brood in the main flock and nobody messes with them and their eggs or chicks.
Hard to say. She was broody, I think, for about a week this time around. She stays broody sometimes for over a month.
I wanted to give her a chance, but it is not a problem. Just thought it would be nice for her to raise some chicks. I may try again next time, if I have fertile eggs then.😊

Yes, something very grounding and calming about keeping chickens.🥰
My daughter is the practical one in our family. Whenever I’m tempted to get more chicks or keep chicks, she says “mom, you have enough chickens already”, or “no, you can’t take that wild chicken home”.🤣
First batch of chicks are due to hatch on Saturday.
So excited!😃
Haha this sounds like me when my mom sends pictures of dogs and cats at the animal shelters. “No mom, 4 dogs is plenty…no mom you already have 4 cats and 4 feral cats, you don’t need another” 😆😆Now she’s doing it to me with my chickens! Haha. I can’t wait to see your baby floofs!! 😍

Sure!🥰
I only have one right now. She is half silkie and half Polish. She was actually an accidental hatch because I put her mom’s egg in the incubator thinking it was one of the Silkies at the time! She is a real sweetheart and one of my favorites. The upcoming chicks will be 3/4 Silkie and 1/4 Polish, so assume will look even more silkie-like. (50/50 chance of having silkied or smooth feathers). Hoping for some paint Polkies!
This is Kinoko, she has a gorgeous sheen to her feathers:View attachment 2862473View attachment 2862472View attachment 2862470View attachment 2862471
Some of these photos I have posted previously.😊
Oh my goodness! She is gorgeous!!

I have a little banty hen that is mostly Rosecomb, and probably has some OEGB and Japanese batam in her as well, and she will only set in her chosen nest, but once one of the chicks hatch it doesn't matter where she is as long as the chick(s) are with her. She is the best broody mama I have. So far only my one silkie that I already had has raised chicks, and I definitely prefer my little banty hen over her.🤣

Maybe once my other silkies decide they might want to be mamas, they will be just as good as her? Only time will tell 😂😂

Thought I would post since there’s been no activity on this thread since Tuesday! 🤣
Himawari checking out some of the big chickens.😊
She’s a funny little girl. Tends to wander off from the rest of the flock when “free ranging” and doing her own thing.

First one to find a good spot to sunbathe.
Her mother, Zelda, was the exact same way.😊
