I don’t know if he is on Instagram or on this site, but I can reach out to him and let him know you have an interest in his birds.😊
I have been doing a lot of research on breeding satins. It is really not difficult, just takes time! You take your smooth feathered bird that has all the other silkie qualities, making sure they have proper feet and toe feathering is important. Black skin and correct comb is also important.
You breed this bird back to a really good quality silkie. 50% of the chicks will be smooth feathered and 50% will be silkie feathered.
You repeat this again and again, choosing the best smooth feathered offspring and breeding back to a silkie. 😊
By chance do you have a thread that guides one through the process already or just posts similar to this here there n everywhere?
Like I'm guessing u don't ever breed them back to same ones again...so always a different silkie n satin?

Just wanted to wish everyone Happy Holidays, whichever holiday you celebrate, may it be a good one with family and friends! (small gatherings of course...)
Best wishes for a hopefully better New Year for all of us!❤️

Merry Christmas from Branch and Poppy!
Next year, I'm photoshopping a hat on them, it will be easier.

Burtle is feathering nicely! If he becomes more friendly then he can stay... Him and his other 2 sisters raised by Smokey are quite skittish around me esp the white one... Puffs chicks I can hold and cuddle :idunno I pick up Burtle a few times and give him a cuddle but he does run away mostly, I give all treats but Smokey's 3 stay away mostly.

He looks great! 😍
Silkies are funny, I have handraised all of mine (so far), they all get the same attention. There is always one or two that just do not like being touched, no matter what I do. 🤷‍♀️

I just found information here by searching different threads, as well as reading other places on line. I am fortunate in that my first gen and second gen have different fathers. I will likely breed Noa back to her father, but then it will get more complicated. Maybe my friend will let me borrow his rooster for the next generation after that.😁
Having more than one rooster to work with will definitely be necessary down the line.
