Ok that makss me feel better.. coldest it will be on one night will be 35.. otherwise in the 40s, but I'll still cover them. I'm just going to wait until after Monday's rain because those cheapo bunny hutches don't hold up well after being wet. Unfortunately, i think its too wide to get through the big coop door, so ill have it sitting against one side. (Going to measure now!!)
She looks beautifulHimawari, my recessive white silkie hatched last May, apparently has started laying! I have never seen her anywhere near the nest boxes and I have never seen Eko mate with her. She still acts like a little kid, she’s such a goofball, definitely follows the beat of her own drum and though she is part of the flock she is very individual still. Her eggs and Amai’s look almost identical so I didn’t know she was laying until I got three eggs in one day from the Silkies instead of two!!
The other two Silkie girls are broody and their eggs look very different.
So looks like I have eggs from her in the incubator that are developing as well.

They both were just standing face to face nicely cooing and checking each other out! I really do believe birds of a feather stick together.
wow...in a week, I've missed 20 pages. Ugh. Don't think I will catch up.... Just wanted to say that I did advertise my two Silkie roos on Craigslist. I got one person who reached out and said she was interested in them as therapy pets. Sounds great, right? Except that I've reached back out to her no less than 4 times and she has ghosted me. This has been my experience on CL more times that I care to count... *sad* I told DH that it looks like we are just going to have to cull these two beautiful boys. No one is interested in them and I need the brooder for the new chicks that will hatch on 1/26. We are about to enter lockdown soon...I swear this is the worst part about raising chickens.
I'm drowning in boys right now because I'm a bit of a softie but I have culled a few who were just too aggressive. What a pretty bunch you have too, I don't think I've seen a pure white D'uccle before, she's gorgeous!Well i measured, and had 3" to spare!! So the mini coop is moved into the big run! Makes me feel better too because we do have lots of predators out here.
I raked out the big girls sand and got all the pine out of the mini coop (don't want that messing up my nice neat -for the day- run

Happy that fit and is done. Then of course, after i get everything pristine, stinker 1 and stinker 2 decide to stand on top of the mini coop so they can crap on it

Ideal poultry has both white and brown-red D'uccles.. i haven't seen the white often anywhere else, and they are the only ones who have a brown-red.. they were random lucky bantam bin picks for me. They really are just the sweetest little breed.It's been a couple years but I'm trying my luck with shipped eggs again. I've got 9 mille satin (at least I think they are all satin) eggs that just came today that I'm planning on setting tomorrow. They didn't have to go too far so I really hope something will hatch. If even one does I'll consider that a win! I'll be incubating a few eggs from a couple silkie pairs of my own along with them.
Oh I'm so sorry! I have a terrible time rehoming boys sometimes here too. Dealing with extra boys you can't find homes for is definitely one of the worst parts.

Ill post the little black chick i have when it's normal human waking hoursOh that is neat! I've seen mottled, porcelain, and of course the mille fleurs but not brown red or the white before.
And yeah the eggs are mille fleur satin silkies. I usually don't include the silkie at the end of satin even though they are genetically nearly the same. This is just because it is my understanding that the one who started breeding them seriously in hopes of getting them recognized in the first place was turned down as having them recognized as a silkie variety. After that the name Satin was adopted as the project breed name. They were originally called sizzles and that term is still floating around and used by some. I think right now they are too similar to silkies to be eligible to be recognized as a new breed and because they don't have silkie feathers they cannot be recognized as a silkie. Because they are bred to the same standard as a silkie other than feather type they can be bred with silkies and the resulting offspring are not considered mix breeds but either pure silkies or pure satins depending on feather type. It gets confusing and a lot of people don't agree on variety names and whether they are silkies or a different breed.
Oh they are cuties! I hope you get a great hatch as well, so exciting!
but it was hatched from a breeder that works on special breeds, silkies and related in particular.. i think it could be a satin 
its looking prettier by the day..
