Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Well the chicks got ejected from the house. It'll be a little chilly in the early morning tomorrow, but just for a couple hours. Ill make sure i have the mini coop wrapped up in cardboard. They are great cuddlers, so they should be fine. But the sun is out and feels so good.

As i expected, the big girls, especially Esmeralda, surprisingly, were just too rough w the chicks. One got stuck under the mini coop while fleeing, the tiny silkie was held hostage in a corner. So I'll just keep them locked in the mini coop and restart the integration process.

Weather looks good from here on out (well, as far as the 10 day report goes) and they should be bigger soon enough. Once i get them integrated into the run, then I'll start working on the coop. The mini coop will be a great chicken hospital room in the future.

Im looking up gardening ideas for around the run.. thinking raised planter beds with roses, sunflowers, squash. I have REAL work to do too so I'll have to figure out how to balance both NEEDS.

Regarding gardening ideas for around the run I can recommend currant bushes. They do love the fresh currants

2 chicks hatched yesterday, I don't think the 3rd is going to hatch though I should know today.
I'll get some more pics today when they come out...

Im not sure we have currants here. But now you have me thinking of blueberries and strawberries

I've got high hopes for the little partridge to have red leakage
Little black one head peaking out..

Puff is on 6 developing eggs one week to go till hers hatch - and she's getting very clucky hearing Char's chicks beside her!

I have to ask, I have not ordered silkies because I live in a cold, wet, snowy climate in the winter. However there are a bunch of silkies chicks on craigslist by me. How would silkies do in that weather? Do you think they are keeping them indoors? I would love to get a few silkies someday but since they would be outside I was under the impression they wouldn’t live comfortably here. Thank you for your input!

Oh I'm so glad the last little one hatched too, they are all absolutely adorable with mama Char!

I hope puffs hatch goes well too! My upcoming incubator hatch is due in one more week too, so exciting!

Wet and cold is not good. Their feathers don't give alot of protection in rain like other breeds. So if they can go somewhere out of the rain to stay dry they should be fine.
