Can't really tell by the comb size at this point..but color ... Do you see a lot of purple in that comb?
It still just looks black.. plus its a straight comb, so no walnut to look for. But i was expecting more wattles at this point for a male. But wondering if that color leakage is the giveaway. 🤔

I just put 24 more silkie mix eggs in ans these I’m going to be selling! But here’s little man’s 2nd and 3rd baby!❤️

Oh those are some beautiful birds! ❤️

I bought a new pullet. She's a paint polkie! She's quite skittish but she needs time to adjust. Already seems more relaxed this morning

Aww she is such a pretty girl! 🥰

Puff and her 8 chicks helping prep the to-be veggie patch 😊

..that was 2 days ago, now we've had rain and rain and more rain! Most stay in the coop but a few are silly enough to stay out and get soaked even though I have some shelter areas around the place they could get out of the rain. I think the chickens have had enough of the rain, thankfully it's summer here, but I'll need to plan to construct some sort of run cover for winter - I've tried tarps but they rip / get holes and don't last long.

They are all looking so cute! I love what a neat variety of colors you got this time. The older ones from the earlier hatch are just so beautiful too, I can't wait to see how these little ones mature! ❤️

Aww such cuties! Good luck selling from the ones you will be hatching too! It's so much fun doing the bigger hatches and seeing what pops out. 🥰
Okay wise and wonderful people…I’m curious if this is true about Polish baby chicks? I know this is a Silkie thread but many of you hatch a LOT and I figure you can tell me if this is someone thinking they know or not? Can you sex them this way or no? :)

I'm not much help not having much experience with polish but a while back I got a couple polish chicks from a feed store and used this method to try to pick out a girl. I picked the chick with the biggest fullest vault and then couldn't resist one of the littler chicks who was differently colored than the rest that had a less round more "male" looking vault. The one that had the more female looking vault did indeed turn out female and the one with the more male looking vault did turn out male. I recently got a little polish in a hatchery assortment though and that little cutie did not have a very female looking vault but is female. From my limited experience it seems like it works to some extent but isn't always accurate. Probably a lot better of a hint than trying to guess and having a 50/50 shot though!

Interestingly enough the vault in silkies is sometimes the same way (though in their case it's not so much the shape of the vault but more the presence of the vault). I find in a lot of lines silkie girls tend to be vaulted more often than boys. Definitely not always the case but it's ended up like that in more lines I've hatched from than not.

Oh interesting! I will give it a try with my babies when they hatch and see how accurate I am. If people wanna join in guessing I might make a thread out of it :) That is interesting that the silkies are somewhat similar! And makes me wonder about the genetics of it all! Since both breeds are tough to sex, it would be nice if this worked reasonably well! I hope I get lots of round full poof heads 😆

I tried using this.. it is a mixed bag. I got so many males trying this to find a female!! With the tolbunts, it was true for Wilma, but Pebbles and Fred's both looked small.
