Depends on the rooster really, I've had 1 rooster to one hen without overmating. I've had combinations of ratios, 3 roosters with 8 hens and they didn't fight, another time 2 roosters with 8 hens and they fought bad so had to separate. I think 1 rooster to 3 or 4 hens is good, but it depends on the rooster.
This is helpful.. my roosters are still very mellow.. the tolbunt doesn't want to be held, but hes always coming up nicely to see what im doing. The silkie roo lets me hold him and always stays w the girls who don't go in the coop at night (i have to carry them). They are 13 weeks old now... i thought i might be delusional to even think i could keep both! I'll see how the hormones work out, and hoping being hatchmates will help things.

Yep I find if they grow up together they have been ok, no major fighting, just have to watch they don't overmate the hens. But I've had a separated rooster somehow escape his pen and ended in a bloody fight with my main rooster and had to cull them both. I am hoping for a rooster in my latest hatch so I can have 2 in my flock. My previous hatch of 5 are all pullets.

Here's a few of my fuzz babies

How do yall get your silkies to roost?
Idk if I have the roost bar too high or what the problem is.
The satin silkies are now 4 months old and still pile up in the corner of the coop.
They're still young, id give them some time. Once my previous silkies mastered fly-hopping, they had no problem roosting, flying out of pens, hopping into my lap 😆 You can place them on the roost at night so they get the hang of it.
