Oops I really fell behind! 😅

I'm loving all the beautiful babies and grow outs. 😍

Not exactly close but I think I'm about 3 1/2 hours away. 😂

I've had pretty good luck buying from reputable breeders and hatching out babies from shipped eggs. They are definitely a big gamble though, it's not uncommon that none hatch. :hmm

I think chicks or hatching eggs are definitely a good way to go to get a better chance at some really nice looking birds.

Mine aren't show quality but they are cute fluffballs. I think as far as type goes I'm getting close to show potential at times. I've been having a hard time getting the colors right though and it's not unusual to get faults like extra toes or single combs. I think I've just got a lot of unwanted recessives floating around that need to be bred out. 😩 It'll probably be a few more years before I really get anywhere with the recognized color varieties I have. In the meantime they make cute pets. My birds seems to throw some bent/cross beaks and wry tail sometimes though as well which is unfortunate. :hmm

Here are a few older grow outs from my main paint pen (black over paint and dominant white girls). You can see there are other colors there because of those pesky recessives (but at least they are still pretty). 😂

I'd say that cutie is looking more girly considering the age as well. :)

There is always a slight chance of a really slow developing cockerel but I haven't personally had one that slow
Yours are much better quality than mine. When I say pet quality.. They are PET quality.
I love them, and I will not be getting rid of them. I am just ready for much better quality.
3½ hours away is not too far for me to drive.
We have already built the coops for the new Silkies, if I ever get the ones I like.

Afternoon everyone! I've noticed lately on my silkies, the younger ones, some type of scab on their wattles and on one its head. Included are pictures. If anyone knows what it is and how to treat it, it will be greatly appreciated!
Looks like what my girls got a few months back. Had mosquito mayhem going on.. and they did in fact catch fowl pox. They were scratching a lot, which worried me more than the pox. But after a couple weeks, it ran its course. Hoping they are immune to it now.

Agree it does look like dry fowl pox. Nothing much you can do about it except give them supportive care, extra protein helps. If the sores look like they’re infected, then you can put some Neosporin or bacitracin ointment on the lesions. Personally I vaccinate my birds every year against fowl pox as there are different strains and akin to the flu shot it needs to be done yearly. Common in areas with lots of mosquitoes.🙂

The Littles are now five weeks old and they all three are very sweet. They like to sit on my lap when I have them out. Hotaru’s comb is getting pink and looking more like a three rowed pea comb now. I’m starting to think that the DNA test was incorrect. 🤣🤷‍♀️
Hotaru get’s to stay either way.❤️

The red has come in quite a bit and is very uniform on the chest and on the wings.

If she is indeed a he, maybe I can breed him to my splash Layla, that should give some interesting chicks!🤔

Well you'd be welcome to some chicks if you aren't able to find some more convenient to you and/or of better quality. ☺️

I am collecting eggs now to try hatching out. If you are interested I'd be happy to message you with my next hatch to see if any of the available babies catch your eye. :)

Beautiful, they sound like such little sweethearts too! ❤️

That is wonderful you can keep little Hotaru either way. I'm still surprised by just how much red is coming through! It would be really neat to see what kind of babies you'd get! 🥰

Let me know when they hatch out. I'm not actively looking at the moment, but I am always ready to purchase.

Hmm.. im not familiar with that comb type, but remember Betty had a very pink comb, and you assured me she was just a pink comb girl, and you were right! I think she looks pretty girly. Minnie had a pretty pink comb early too. Voting girl 🎀

sleepy was stunted when she was a chick. But sleepys Brother is already crowing and they are the same age. The breeder who I got them from told me that there are two bones next to the vent that grow apart with Hens but with roosters your can only fit one finger between I was wondering if any would know if this is true. I love your silkies they are soo floofy.
here is a diagram that he sent me:

sleepys seemed very close together
