I have a hen with gold leakage, coming in all over. She is definitely a hen. She had a clutch of 6 black chicks earlier this year.View attachment 3069685
She is partridge! So not really leakage.
She is suppose to look like this.😊
Leakage is when a color comes through that normally would not be there, like my example with the black pullet.
Common for partridge birds to have black chicks depending on what color they were bred to. They can only produce Partridge when bred to another bird that is Partridge or carries Partridge.

I'm not doing business with them anymore. I thought about giving them a second chance. I have done lots of research and I have a community I can rely on for help 😁. In December, before my mother passed away, I called them and asked about a show quality rooster or cockeral and a hen or two. First comment was, "Rooster will be free". Second thing said was "What's your budget".
I said "NEVERMIND".
The man sort-of chuckled and asked me why nevermind. I only said "If I'm calling for show quality, do you think a budget is my concern"? (I was just being rude, I know... I did have a budget - I wasn't telling him though). My first experience with them started out with "What's your budget".
So, I won't he doing any sort business with them anymore.
This is just MY experience with them and to be frank about it, it was my mistake by talking money on the phone before my appointment AND not knowing what I was looking at for show quality.
I'm sure many people have very positive interactions with them. They are still in business, so many many people are pleased with them.
I’m so sorry to read about your mother passing.:hugs

Thank you. I'm still not quite back to normal. Sometimes, I feel like I don't know what I'm doing anymore.
Dealing with loss is never easy and you never truly get over it. Normal is a relative term. I have lost a parent as well, as we all will if we live long enough. The pain gets gentler with time, but will always be there. May the memory of your mother be a blessing to you.❤️

Thank you very much. It really helps to not feel like I'm not normal to feel this way.

Afternoon everyone! I've noticed lately on my silkies, the younger ones, some type of scab on their wattles and on one its head. Included are pictures. If anyone knows what it is and how to treat it, it will be greatly appreciated!

Oops I really fell behind! 😅

I'm loving all the beautiful babies and grow outs. 😍

Mine too.
I have to stop looking at these posts....
Who has chicks for sale?? (Reasonably close to Alabama).
LoL, REALLY?
😳

Not exactly close but I think I'm about 3 1/2 hours away. 😂

I've had pretty good luck buying from reputable breeders and hatching out babies from shipped eggs. They are definitely a big gamble though, it's not uncommon that none hatch. :hmm

I think chicks or hatching eggs are definitely a good way to go to get a better chance at some really nice looking birds.

Mine aren't show quality but they are cute fluffballs. I think as far as type goes I'm getting close to show potential at times. I've been having a hard time getting the colors right though and it's not unusual to get faults like extra toes or single combs. I think I've just got a lot of unwanted recessives floating around that need to be bred out. 😩 It'll probably be a few more years before I really get anywhere with the recognized color varieties I have. In the meantime they make cute pets. My birds seems to throw some bent/cross beaks and wry tail sometimes though as well which is unfortunate. :hmm

Here are a few older grow outs from my main paint pen (black over paint and dominant white girls). You can see there are other colors there because of those pesky recessives (but at least they are still pretty). 😂

I'd say that cutie is looking more girly considering the age as well. :)

There is always a slight chance of a really slow developing cockerel but I haven't personally had one that slow yet.

I wonder if it could be dry fowl pox? I believe they often get it from mosquitos but can get it from other birds as well. With dry fowl pox if it is just mild like that it may be just something that runs its course and heals on its own over time. The wet kind is a lot worse and may need antibiotics to prevent secondary infections from what I've read. Maybe someone in the Emergencies / Diseases / Injuries and Cures section of the forum might have a better idea if you don't get much of a response here?
