OH my! Can you show me the difference between splash and paints? I understand on paints the color is all the way through the shaft.
Sorry, you do have splash. Paint is distinct black markings on the silkie and what I consider blotches. Splash is more what you have with more of lighter shades of blue more of fading colors like you have. Here is a silkie color chart that I absolutely love and think is very helpful.

Yippeeeeeeeee! :wee

Now here's a question.. out of 8 eggs hatched (silkie mixes - Gen Lee is the dad) All of the males are showing this color scheme in one form or another.. Fluff Meister was the first, now these two younger brothers.. all of the females have been lighter muted colors.. So is the dark pattern associated with males?

Not a single girl has had this wide range of colors or pattern. And no light colored males have hatched from Gen Lee.

Yes. That is a male only color. Partridge and wheaten males feather in that color. A few others do as well I believe.

Gives you a hugeeeeeeeeeee hug! TY TY TY... so, Gen Lee is the one carrying the partridge gene.. that's how two of his daughters ended up with the black crest feathers. I also have a female from a red cochin that is the same color as Puff Meister, but without the crest.. she's going in with Gen Lee as well.

Here is the 3rd gen cockerel who's sister I posted last night. Like his sister, he's still bigger than the full silkies. He will get more black. Those are mostly pinfeathers at the moment. I can see them coming in.

The blue partridge cockerel I'd posted awhile back. He has red shoulders are coming in now showing him as obviously male.

The explanation I saw for the 'Golden Crele' was that it inherited a 'b gene' from both parents (barring). That would totally make sense because Turtle Dove's father is a Bielefelder. They have obvious barring while the females do not.. Example.. these two youngters are 3/4 Bielefelder. Dad was bred back to his daughter from an EE.
