Sun is such a low angle this time of year that it looks evening even though I took the pictures around 1pm. We had sun so they got to enjoy it.

Hope everyone had a great new years day!
Seems like most people in the state where I live are hatching lots of cockerels, lots more then any other year. I'm yet to tell what mine are but odds seems to be in favour of cockerels for some reason. Maybe the weather?
I have sold 3 splash chicks (unknown sex) and 1 young boy I knew was a cockerel given away to another person who wanted him as a pet. I plan to keep the others untill I can figure out boy or girl. They are only 1 week to 6 weeks old.
I have been selling lots of eggs lately so that just about pays for the chicken's feed for a year. I plan to sell some hens before winter to cut back a bit too. Still plenty of summer here left for more hatches and egg sales though 😃

they say in a hot year more cockerels hatch.

That 1st gen hen has given me some very nice offspring. This was her this last autumn. Her father was a blue partridge silkie.

Molly my favorite broody is her daughter. Not quite as good on the beard and crest but absolutely best for raising chicks.

So did you breed 1st gen to another Silkie to get Molly?
I'm really excited to understand more about the breeding process. I don't have Ameraucanas but luv their beards!!!
