Had this little one day old monkey hop out of the nesting box, only to land in the next one over while it was still cold out this morning. Mom had her kids out of the nest calling them to eat.. but missed this one. I found it cold and barely moving, so stuffed it in my pouch (sweatshirt) and brought it inside and put it under a warming lamp. (40 watt clear bulb). Then went out to finish feeding and watering the flock. By the time I got back in, it was moving a bit. 30 minutes later it started screaming its head off! I'll wait a few days then introduce it back into it's pile of siblings. White Cloud hatched 6, while Blue Bonnet hatched another 4 of WC's. I can put him with either hen, maybe even it out.View attachment 4006351

you can put it under the hen at night. I don't think you should wait a few days. chicks like company. put it where there is another chick of the same or similar colour.

Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to all you Cluckers!

Oh really? She was sold to me as a Polish chick, though from a pet produce store so not totally reliable. Here's some full body shots.
Oh she’s lovely, almost looks like a Tolbunt Polish.

I have had a few polish x silkie kiddies, the polish sure does throw the big head poofs; leg feathers are about 50/50. Blue ears about a third of the time. Always get black skin in both pullets and cockerels.

Sooo I have this 7 month old silkie pullet who started laying eggs for a few weeks then decided to go broody almost 7 weeks ago. Nothing I did would snap her out of it.

Finally after 6 weeks I relented and gave her two chicks. Let me tell you finding chicks up here in the winter isn’t easy. Esp day olds.

Found a couple of chicks a few days old, crossed my fingers and shoved them under her. Next morning she was a proud mama eating and drinking again.

They have bonded with mama Georgie and thriving.

These silkies are going to give me grey hair! Sure hope these two dumplings aren’t more cockerels!

today one of 6 mo german shepherd/greek shepherd mix entered my silkie's run looking for the eggs. I heard horrible noise and ran to see what happened. my 8 silkies were chasing and pecking poor puppy who could not find the way out:lau

Good birds. Teach respect. My chickens had to do that to my male cat that attacked chicks. Every time they saw him for over 6 months
