Just keep sticking them in there at bed time.. they will get the picture soon enough.. Is there enough ventilation? May be too hot atm.

Just yesterday, my sister left the main chicken gate open and one silkie is gone. 😱😱😱, but my current thing im trying to fix is my silkies dont seem to like their new home. At night they huddle at the gate but they dont want to climb the chicken ramp to the chicken house. Im guessing that maybe its too high off the ground, or its not comfortable enough. Do y'all have any fixes or solutions for this.

Ive never been able to get my silkies to use a ramp. I put in steps and no problems

Try steps. For some reason, my birds (not Silkies) refuse to use a ramp. They will either fly or jump right over one, so I removed it. For the higher entrance, I added a small cluster of log sections, staggered like pier pilings. The littles and a few of the older hens use them like stairs.

i think that log idea sounds very good, ill try that too.

Howdy y'all
So i noticed that a few days ago, by boy (silver silkie) was a bit aggressive, I think maybe protective may be a better word.

But I wanted to ask if y'all know if theres a way to encourage the girl silkies to start laying eggs. I got them march 31st, so it is about 6 months old.

My spring hatched usually take 9 months or more to start. Part of why I prefer late summer/fall. Increasing light when they are maturing means some may lay at 6 months.

Ive never had a people aggressive silkie rooster that didn't come from hatchery stock. Ive also taken temperament into account over the years when deciding who to keep for breeding, as well.

You're fella is feeling his hormones, so you're going to see more of that behavior. Silkies don't usually push too hard. Don't be intimidated or aggressive back, just be confident and he should be fine.
If you're just coming into fall/winter or molting, it'll likely be another month or two before you start getting eggs. You can put a fake egg or a golf ball in a nest box to give 'em a clue about "where," but be patient. Your ladies won't start laying until they're good and ready ... the little stinkers!

Thanks for the answers, @MROO and @Hinotori , for the aggressive and protective behavior, for my male silver silkie, it looks like it was just that one day thing. It lined up just as i came back from a 1 wk trip away, but after that day, he was back to being a very nice and caring big boi rooster. I think he just didnt realize it was me since i had my sister take care of the chickens for that wk.

Looking at my pictures from grandma, I did buy some 1-2 wk old show silkies and January for her. it think these started laying at month 7. but dose aligns when the days were the longest. We also set up the heat lamps for longer periods of time when they were small. I wonder if it is better to hatch chicks during the fall winter so that they can take full advantage of that full sun time. I hope my chickens start laying some time this or next month. bc theyll be hitting that 6month mark sep 31.
