Silly phobias that linger from childhood? Clowns are a given O_O

I only know a few people not creeped out by clowns. Mine began when I saw one up close, with that painted on smile yet the real mouth was not smiling. Creepy.

I'm not fond of the dark either and always keep a light on. Unless I hear a noise then all the lights go out. Not sure if that's logical, lol.

Elevators. Any elevator, but particularly one with a window. Those are the WORST. I can't seem to stop myself from watching it go down, down, doooowwnnn..... dragging me to my doom.

Oh, also ghosts and the dark.

I would have to say that I am a little scared of the dark as well.

I was always afraid of the dark when I was younger, but if I was able to get to bed before everyone else went to bed, I was ok. When I had issues in the middle of the night, if I could lay very still under my covers, then of course, nothing could see me. Nowadays, I only get bothered by it if I am alone. The fact that we have a very alert, large dog that sleeps in the living room everynight, and 3 more that sleep at the other end of the house, is what really helps. I figure they are going to know if someone is in the house, well before I will. Between her and my husband, I feel pretty safe. However, if my husband is out of town, and it's just me and the kids, or just me, the dogs are definitely my safety net.

Odd how phobias go, isn't it? When I was tiny my mom used to hide me away when the gypsies would roll thru town...not because she thought they'd steal me, but because I'd run after them begging them to take me with them.

I have an odd fear of heights, I got over parts of it when I was in the military, being up on top of an aircraft wing is OK. But trying to go down a ladder that is at a steep angle from a roof...
NOPE.. down from a tree.. UH NOPE!
When I was a child I wanted to be like the bigger sibs and cousins and they climbed up on a propane tank... I got up and couldn't get down, they did and took off leaving me...
AND.. a double Ferris wheel, as it is coming down from that HIGH arc, I am shaking, I can't look and just want the ride to be over with.
Flying no prob, elevators.. no issue...

And I had a very strange phobia of being in a small car, next to a big rig truck, on a bridge when its under construction. The narrowing of the lanes, big rig drivers not looking to where their wheels are...
and me being squeezed closer and closer into the side of the bridge or the concrete dividers. It stems from years of driving up through the bay area when I was in the military and afterwards.
I just recently got over it, even in a larger car I had it.. still do get it.. but not as bad.

I grew up in the desert so no fear of reptiles, spiders or the dark. Just a fear of small cars/big trucks squishing me.. and oddly specific version of fear of heights.

DH just told me he has an old phobia of siamese twins.

I had to think on this one a minute to come up with something, but I finally did. SPARKLERS!! You know those things everyone lights and plays with on the 4th of July. Yeah, those. I was forced to hold one as a kid, even though I was totally terrified, and screaming. My mom's husband held his hand over mine, and forced me to hold it. To this day, I HATE sparklers.

Not so much a fear of heights as a physical reaction. I pass out. Yeah, not awesome.

I also have a phobia of driving/falling/being pushed off a cliff. We live in the mountains of BC- LOTS of high summits with cliffs. Panic attacks.

Ft. Loudon Lake...

I will fish in it, but I will NEVER get in it or eat anything out of it. Might as well lick a toilet bowl. I just hate that water...

OMG, I knowhow you feel, I remember when I was seven and had to be held down by 6 nurses just to get my shots! I remember it as being a pitch black room with one light right over the examining chair. My mom says it was completely normal lighting. I beg to differ. Mayb, however, that is why they could see me and my brother when we hid in the dark?

ok I have a few...I think I'm odd...

Dont laugh..lol...I laugh but its a pathetic laugh..

I KNOW that in a former life (hehe) I must have been in an airplane, that crashed into a bridge and I drowned...
so that being said; I'm terrified of flying...(I figure if God wanted me to fly, he'd have given me retractable wings)...
I'm scared of being on/in fresh water..a small pool is ok...if there is other ppl in it...
and I was terrified of being on bridges..I used to cry and hold my breath..it was pathetic..I'm working through that one..

I also get really really sick on water..so that doestn help w/the phobia...

I also think my phobia w/water was the fact that my mom threw me in the deep end of the pool and said
swim before the sharks get you (when I was li'l..) to this day mom says she never did it..but she did...

Also, hubby works nights..so I cannot sleep w/my back to the door..and I have to have one light on in each room..
like the lights gonna do anything...
