Silly swimming chickens...I mean "ducks"....I mean chickens!!

It is a bit unusual, but it is also VERY fun!!

I've gotta say...a large swimming pool is the predominant feature of my backyard, and I've been deathly afraid that eventually one of my three hens will end up falling in. For that reason, I never let them free range unless I'm there to supervise...pool net at the ready to perform a rescue! Just a few days ago, my EE didn't notice her sisters had wandered off and in her panic to rejoin them flew straight across the pool. She struggled through the air and barely made it to the other side.

Anyhow, seeing your pictures makes me feel a lot better, knowing that my girls are more than capable of surviving a brief dip in the pool!

I'm so glad I checked back to see your updated pics! I am visiting my mom, and wanted to show her the pics of your swimming chicks. We got a big kick out of each pic.

The other day I searched youtube for swimming chickens and did find one video of a rooster paddling around, but he did not look as happy as your Buff babes in the pool.

Yes, I think they'd be okay, but chickens have been know to panic in water (so I've learned from the comments of others here on this posting). Mine were introduced with our supervision. Just don't totally let your guard down.

I've seen that same youtube video! Thanks for sharing the pics with your mom Jill!
