Clardychicks
In the Brooder
Came home from vacation and discovered an alarming wattle and comb had developed on my 7 week old Wyandotte. This is my first flock. I ordered my chicks from a hatchery and have read there seems to be a difference in development from hatchery stock.
I have scoured this forum, showed my pictures to chicken ppl and I am getting very mixed information on the sex of my Wyandotte. It seems that those who are unfamiliar with the breed quickly declare a cockerel when they see any sort of comb developing. Then I read many members mistakenly rehomed what they thought was a rooster only to find out their chick was a hen. I know it may be too soon, and I will not be rehoming yet. I am looking for feedback from those members familiar with Wyandottes. I read somewhere that ppl can tell by the feather colors if the saddle feathers aren't developing. I also read that a Wyandotte comb and wattle can be very misleading on a pullet so not to get too worked up early. I am hesitant to ask as I am not prepared for the answer. I love my girls. Every one of them. So lay it on me...Hen or Rooster?
