Came home from vacation and discovered an alarming wattle and comb had developed on my 7 week old Wyandotte. This is my first flock. I ordered my chicks from a hatchery and have read there seems to be a difference in development from hatchery stock.
I have scoured this forum, showed my pictures to chicken ppl and I am getting very mixed information on the sex of my Wyandotte. It seems that those who are unfamiliar with the breed quickly declare a cockerel when they see any sort of comb developing. Then I read many members mistakenly rehomed what they thought was a rooster only to find out their chick was a hen. I know it may be too soon, and I will not be rehoming yet. I am looking for feedback from those members familiar with Wyandottes. I read somewhere that ppl can tell by the feather colors if the saddle feathers aren't developing. I also read that a Wyandotte comb and wattle can be very misleading on a pullet so not to get too worked up early. I am hesitant to ask as I am not prepared for the answer. I love my girls. Every one of them. So lay it on me...Hen or Rooster?

Are ears white? 7 week old wyandottre---I wouldn't make any decisions until at least 20 weeks. I have 4 that are 9 weeks old and I have to tell myself to stop trying to figure them out. They are hard to sex. I will probably wait for a crow or egg. They

My first flock was silver laced wyandottes. They can be kinda tricky to tell. That much red in the comb and wattles appears masculine. He has the right comb for a Wyandotte but the earlobe color is not. Puzzling.

I vote cockerel.

Oh its most definitely a silver laced Wyandotte (they have white earlobes but lay brown eggs)...

And it also looks like a cockerel.. Too young for the comb to be developing; pullets don't change to red combs until onset of lay, about 20 weeks of age. He also has hackles and some small saddle feathers coming in around his neck and back, and his tail is too prominent for a pullet.

Silver laced Wyandotte cockerel.

He's pretty... SLW make gorgeous roosters ;)

That looks like a SLW cockerel to me (I have one who is 14 weeks old). I've know since he was about 3-4 weeks old that he was my rooster ( I bought 4 SLW, 3 girls and 1 boy) he had thicker legs and stood up straighter than the girls. He also had different lacing to him, similar to what yours is showing. This is Kevin and one of his girls for comparison, they are about 13 weeks in the pic. You can see the different lacing pattern to the pullet in front of him.

Pullets do get some pink in the comb earlier than many other breeds. However, yours had a well developed raised comb as well as large red wattles. I'm pretty confident that you have a cockerel. I hope you are able to keep him. If not, at least you'll have a little extra time to find him a home. In my experience, wyandotte cockerels are usually pretty late to start crowing.

yeah, strange. My SLW's had red earlobes.
Heres a pic of mine that i posted here that some say is a roo? Hope not? They do look like these though?
