Silver Phase Welsh Harlequins wanted!!

I really appreciate the help:) for the most part I don't care about showing all of my birds. Just 1 or 2. I do want to breed them so I guess it will just be the 2 that I'm showing. I love my birds they are cute so they will be staying with me:) I do think metzers is ran by good people and they have healthy birds. .. I just didn't realize the difference between show quality before. When I got into these birds I was a very un educated. Now that I've done all the research I figured out exactly what I want to do you and wish I would of known about holderreads before that's all. Wynette what is the dark brown bird looks just like my guy who is a golden layer:)

There are a couple of really outstanding breeders of Welsh Harlequins that post on BYC. Keep your eyes open for their posts and, if you are really lucky, one will be located close enough to you to pick up ducklings. That way you don't have to buy a full box full.

Oh I so wish there were someone close!! I had to ship my girls from Metzers that was pricey...My only options are the hatchery the feed store uses (McMurry) or buy online and for what I'm looking for its order 10 Ducklings from Holderreads when I only need two or pay like $200 for two adults to be shipped from holderreads ahhhhghh....lol!

Another option is to find a couple of other people close to you who want Welsh harlequin and split a box from Holderread.

You simply are not going to get high quality Welsh Harlequins from one of the mail order hatcheries.

Yeah that's what I want to do but I haven't found anyone yet. I put in ad on best farm buys I'm still waiting for a response. I'll just take a deep breath breathe and be patient;)

I thought there is allot of color changes that happen in the females? When is the bill and foot color definite. I have read that body color continues to change and not true till 2 yrs ? Also remember, that just because he is the guru , I would bet that Holderread has culls. I think improving is part of the fun of breeding birds. gwenirish - I would not be hesitate to use one of you birds from Metzers that matured well, as to not have any disqualifying faults and remember there is more to it than color.

That's a good point!:) from the looks of it the light one (alice) is starting to show some nice color any really dark bill. I'd imagine I might use her someday:)

Everyone has culls and no ones saying it's impossible to get a SQ duck from Metzer's. It's just that your chances of getting show quality birds are better with a good breeder who pays attention to their breeding stock (like Holderread).

Tibitt, your post made me happy:)) Your birds are beautiful!! Wow, they change a lot in a years time!! I love when people post photos of their harlequins....they are waaay different then dealing with other ducks:)
