HI all,
(second post within 10 minutes, just signed up, hope im doing this right)
I have a pair of silver pheasents recently given to me.
i have them penned up at the moment by themselves. i would love to know if they can be free ranged? and/or if they can live in a 30 x 50m pen with 5 ducks, 3 geese and a turkey? which i will be letting out daily and penning of a night.
we live on 36 acres that backs onto a forrestry. so not sure if its a good idea or not.
i also have a chicken coop with free range days and penned nights. (if that would be a better option, although not as big)
im very new to most poultry, and having a crash course in integrating all of them. ive had no trouble with various chickens, turkeys and ducks. but these pheasents are a little out of my knowledge range. any help would be grealty appreciated

I know game birds shouldn't mix with chickens as chickens can carry diseases, showing no symptoms, that can be deadly for pheasants, quail etc. Pheasants can't free range. They need a tall aviary type enclosure where they can roost up high. Hopefully someone with more experience can give you more details.

ok thanks. i do have a huge pen, with hail netting on the top, fully enclosed with trees etc in it. thats why i was thinking of leaving them down with the ducks etc.
the pheasents are pretty quiet, nearly eating out of my hand, they eat out of the bucket when i feed them but not sure about the hand. bummer if they cant be let out.
thanks for the reply

Very well put.

You'll also want to deworm them regularly with a good wormer. The "natural" remedies that get posted won't work. Worms are a majorly underestimated problem with poultry but with gamebirds it can be fatal.
