Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

I want to apologize to the whole thread for relating my own climate details. I will stick to coffee only

write about anything you want, I am amazed at your vast knowledge on things mechanical, a coffee only thread would be omitted from my favorites.

Hey perchie girl,
frow.gif

I am just waiting for everyone to thaw before I show my face around here.

I've been hanging out with the Aussies, they are having a heat wave.
cool.png

It did get down into the low 20's for us and all of our spring flowers are mushy.
But, nothing like the negative 20s the rest of them have been having.

Aussies? Which thread is that? Its been very variable here normally we are boringly predictable. But first heatwave then cold spell. but always very dry. we are dying here inch by inch year by year...

Oh, they are scattered here and there.
It is summer for them and apparently a very hot one.

Water is very important here. When we don't get any the state literally collapses because our aquifer is holding us up. When the water table drops so does the land.

Our neighbors had cement pumped under their home for over three weeks.
So...the insurance company dropped us for... having leaves in our gutter.
Humph. jerks.
Apparently sinkhole litigation does not go well for insurance companies.

I am pretty sure that they filled the entire block and we are all sitting on a cement pad now.

Thats crazy stuff.... the Aquefer at the house is down a hundred feet. which leaves about 250 left in my water column. um er the water all over the whole mountain is down 100 feet. Its dependant on snow. Which we got trace amounts this year. My well is only 450 feet deep. standard practice these days is to go a minimum of 500. house above me hit water at 100 feet ten years ago when they drilled thier well and they went down 500 anyway.

Thanks! I did. I got 3 Partridge Cochins and I wanted at least one Polish (I got 4: two buff laced, one white-crested blue, and the white-crested black is head of security).
I also ended up with 1 Exchequer Leghorn, 2 Golden Campine, which I'm happy about. The 1 Sicilian Buttercup didn't make it. =(

@ the pic!

Hope you get what you want, can't wait to see pictures.
Thank you the coffee pot is a bunn phase brew. It makes very hot coffee but it is really slow compared to my tassimo or keurig. It was free though :)

Thanks, and you asked for it:
I posted them small, so they wouldn't take up as much space, but you all can click on them if you want to see them larger.
Also, we made some fairly educated guesses at the breeds, so if anyone's sure they're something other than what we estimated, please share. =)
{We based our guesses on pics from Meyer's website (that's where we ordered them from); we used fluff color, shank color, etc.}
This is the Sicilian Buttercup that didn't make it. She had a double comb and looked like the pics of the SB chicks (right color feathers, legs, etc.)

Golden Campine

Another Golden Campine

Partridge Cochin (feathered legs), this one's in the middle on color.

lightest Partridge Cochin

Almost black Cochin, with a brownish cast to her fluff; darkest Partridge Cochin (Meyer doesn't offer any other brown/black color Cochin in the rare breeds.)

Buff-Laced Polish

Buff-Laced Polish

White-Crested Black Polish (head of security; she looks up out of the top of the brooder every time anyone goes into the living room, even if they don't go anywhere near the brooders. lol)

White-Crested Blue Polish (super sweet and friendly)

Exchequer Leghorn (more friendly than other Leghorn pullets I've had, but still quite uppity lol)

Well, there you have it. What do you think?

Hey, free coffee pot! Give me a cup of coffee, I'm happy for a morning; give me a coffee pot and I'm happy every morning.

I cold brew a whole pound of coffee at a time with my Toddy maker....
droolin.gif

Its just a big caraffe that has an industrial filter in the bottom that is about a quarter inch thick. Stopper goes below that snug so you can pull it out when time to decant.

The coffee goes in and gets put on the countertop out of the way for a full on 24 hours. Then decanted it flowes through the filter and comes out a coffee concentrate. The suggestion is to use it as one part coffee and two parts of what ever you put in it. I use half and half.

I have since tweaked the recipe for me because i am an espresso drinker. so my mix is approx 50/50.

Absolutely NO bitterness just rich rich coffee flavor.

I tried cold pressing my coffee last week. It didn't come out that great, but I also only made one cup out of it before it got little floaty things in it.
sickbyc.gif

I'm going to try again this week.
hu.gif
We'll see.

Yup!

@perchie.girl that sounds delicious!

@TeaChick Have the babies arrived yet?

Yup!
Pics posted. =)

The boys like looking at the girls, just like all males.

I stole the eggs and now it has been so cold she has decided it is not time to brood anyway!

I so need this, except for exchange the goats for llamas!!!!
lau.gif

Ah, yes, males will be males. lol
I see. That seems like a wise decision on her part. =)

@TeaChick did you get your babies today?

They arrived on Wednesday, as expected. We had a scare on Tues, b/c I called the hatchery and they said they had just found out that they weren't shipping any chicks, but mine had already been packed up and marked as shipped. When I called back later, they said that FL was not on the no-ship list.
ya.gif
And they came to the PO Wed am.

Thank you Teachick. I can get on my nook some. Hoping to go look at computers next week. Not sure what to get. Feel lost. Been trying to look up the newest latest computers. But after you get it out the door its already outdated. Lol
YW.

I agree! Unless you are a techie who lives for that stuff, looking for a new computer is overwhelming. One thing I do not recommend is windows 8. If you are accustomed to any other windows, it is totally different and very frustrating to learn.
barnie.gif

Yeah, everyone should have a resident techie. =)

I have learned enough of windows 8 to get by, I gave up on spending a lot of time on software education when they change it often. cars used to break as often as computers, now cars are reliable.

time for my second cup

Yeah, but ya used to be able to fix 'em yourself too; now you need a PhD just to figure out what's wrong with 'em.
he.gif

I used to help my dad change the brake shoes (yes, shoes) on his 1970 C-10. Missin' those days. lol

definitely you WANT windows 8. In a few months Microsoft will be releasing windows 10 free to current 8 users. They promise it fixes all the stupid glitches and the clumsy user interface, giving you option to switch back to the 7 interface if you want. Other reason to not go backwards is they dropping support for all earlier versions in the near future. Just an FYI.

I'm just going to copy-and-paste this and email it to my IT guy. He probably already knows, but just in case. I'm on the same level as @ocap when it comes to computers.

Dh would love to live there however I refuse!
