Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

It was 25 here this morning and they all came out!

How cold is it in Texax?
It is 29*F here. I opened the front door, brought out some fresh spinach, and "most" of 'em came out to eat it. -turned tails and went back when it was gone. -opened the little sliding doors to the coop so they can access the run. Nobody will come out. It is too funny! They all have been poking their heads out then returning to whatever it is they've been doin' in there for the past five days.

That is funny!

Mine like the cold better than 110 though.

Yep. When the mercury hits triple digits from July through September, we get nervous 'round here.
I did not lose any this year. Last year I lost one during each of two heat waves. A Marans breeder about 150 miles away, where it gets about 5 degrees hotter lost about 15 of her Little Peddler flock. IT was over 114 that day.

We have low humidity so I added mister lines and a black sun screen--It blocked over 90% of the light but still let the air circulate.

-tough losing birds. -neighbor lost one this past summer.

-low humidity, high humidity - we get it all. We have a mister suspended from the oak near the run, have two large box fans on the run, and two in the coop. -keep ice blocks in the water. -so far, so good. I'm rather enjoying the cool snap. -wish the gals shared my enthusiasm! Summer'll be here soon enough.

The misters work wonders in low humidity. In the South East they just make it more uncomfortable and the mildew grows better.

Hi everyone!
Heat here is no problem. We hit 90o three days in a row this year and everyone was in shock, that just doesn't happen!!! 80's will send people running for the beach :weee

-20 to -30 windchill today and they aren't even closing schools. Tomorrow maybe they won't run the school buses because the windchill is supposed to be worse with a high temp of -5 F.

My chickies aren't thrilled either but there is some Sun warming the top of the greenhouse to almost 20 so they all high tailed it in there :cd
